My 6yr old whippet, for the last 2 months, has been having the odd 'funny stomach' in the evenings. She is a rather histrionic young lady and I wouldn't put it past her to be putting it on BUT basically this is what happens.

She gets trembly (as whippets do), her eyes get all bulgy and her ears go right back. Then she pants and licks as if she is going to be sick. I put her outside and she stands by the gate. She won't be sick in the garden and when I take her for a walk, sometime she is sick, sometimes not.

This mysterious sickness seems to be linked to me not allowing her to lie on my bed. (wierd I know). Basically until my new puppy arrived she had the run of the house but now if I'm in the living room, I keep the bedroom door shut cos I need to keep an eye on the pup. My older dog will stand with her head pressed against the bedroom door trembling and eye popping. She has a) a basket and b) is allowed on the furniature so there a plenty of places to lie. Last time I caved in and let her in my room and she promptly attempt to yak on the floor ??????

Last night she did it and I kept putting her out but she just stood by the gate trembling. Eventually I opened the gate (we live in a quiet area) and she ran off to play over the road and wouldn't come back (cue me in phjamhas wandering about the neighbourhood swearing). I found her by the bin at the top of the road looking for food which makes me wonder if she was 'really' feeling sick.

I don't know if she is winding herself up because she wants to lie on the bed, there is something genuinely wrong (this happens about 2 times a week ish?) or maybe her stomach doesn't agree with all the rich puppy food she has been stealing lately (!).

She is eating, is lively at the yard, plays lots with her new sister and is otherwise happy EXCEPT for this wierd 2 evenings a week trembly, eye poppy, licking, 'I'm gonna vom' thing. The following morning she is fine again.

Don't really want to go to the vet and pay mega bucks when nothing is wrong but I'm also worried that maybe there is an underlying cause and I'm just shrugging it off becuase I think she is winding herself up.

Any thoughts????

I have a dog who throws up if he is stressed- people coming round to the house, staying with other people, new puppy, anything exciting really- changes of routine used to trigger it too (he's a delicate little flower). He's much better than he was when he was younger but every now and again he'll get stressed out by something and throw up.

If this has been going on for a while I would be inclined to visit the vet and rule out anything more sinister.

Please take her to vet - if she is not her normal self she needs checking. And take out pet insurance - we have just coughed up over £2,000 for Bumble Dog - all I can say is thank you More Than who are covering most of it!

Have to say i agree i would take her to the vet, we also insure with more than neverused it (touch wood ) but pleased to know they are good.
My dog keela gets a really acidy tummy if she doesnt eat twice a day and have a couple of biscuits at lunch and is sick we tried everything took her to the vets and were to the point we were going to have her scoped when the vet suggested trying feeding her 3 x a day. She is a fussy eater but as long as she eats something 3 x we have no problems.

she is fully insured with Pet Plan do not worry. All my animals are insured.

TBH i was asking on here as the step immediately PRIOR to going to the vet (hho advice being free and all that

). I will phone them on Monday and see what they say.

She is my baby, I'm not going to see her fall ill and do nothing but she is also rather hystrionic and has always had an easily upset stomach even since a puppy so I thought I'd canvas some opinions first.

thanks!

My whippety lurcher does the trembly thing and that all started with the death of my older dog, so I wonder if yours is just really put out about the pup. You say she was fine until she wasn't allowed in the bedroom but maybe it's because you've got a new pup AND she can't go in the bedroom where she feels safe? Maybe she just chucked up with the stress?

my whippet (shes just over a year now) gets sick if she is stressed out. She also gets VERY jealous of our other dog, even tho she was here way after him (we've had him since a pup and hes 11 now!). We dont give either of them more attention than the other, and they are both allowed in the same areas of the house.

It sounds like yours is getting stressed and jealous over the new puppy imo. Whippets are funny animals! Let us know what the vet says x
