My 6yr old whippet, for the last 2 months, has been having the odd 'funny stomach' in the evenings. She is a rather histrionic young lady and I wouldn't put it past her to be putting it on BUT basically this is what happens.
She gets trembly (as whippets do), her eyes get all bulgy and her ears go right back. Then she pants and licks as if she is going to be sick. I put her outside and she stands by the gate. She won't be sick in the garden and when I take her for a walk, sometime she is sick, sometimes not.
This mysterious sickness seems to be linked to me not allowing her to lie on my bed. (wierd I know). Basically until my new puppy arrived she had the run of the house but now if I'm in the living room, I keep the bedroom door shut cos I need to keep an eye on the pup. My older dog will stand with her head pressed against the bedroom door trembling and eye popping. She has a) a basket and b) is allowed on the furniature so there a plenty of places to lie. Last time I caved in and let her in my room and she promptly attempt to yak on the floor ??????
Last night she did it and I kept putting her out but she just stood by the gate trembling. Eventually I opened the gate (we live in a quiet area) and she ran off to play over the road and wouldn't come back (cue me in phjamhas wandering about the neighbourhood swearing). I found her by the bin at the top of the road looking for food which makes me wonder if she was 'really' feeling sick.
I don't know if she is winding herself up because she wants to lie on the bed, there is something genuinely wrong (this happens about 2 times a week ish?) or maybe her stomach doesn't agree with all the rich puppy food she has been stealing lately (!).
She is eating, is lively at the yard, plays lots with her new sister and is otherwise happy EXCEPT for this wierd 2 evenings a week trembly, eye poppy, licking, 'I'm gonna vom' thing. The following morning she is fine again.
Don't really want to go to the vet and pay mega bucks when nothing is wrong but I'm also worried that maybe there is an underlying cause and I'm just shrugging it off becuase I think she is winding herself up.
Any thoughts????
