Hi Guys,

I'm being really nosey here and wondered what horses you have, breed/age/sex etc and what you do with them...

I'll kick this off...

I have a 13yo 16.1hh TB Gelding who I bought for showjumping but more so, XC. But he will never be suitable as he's got a lot of historic physical issues and so is just really a big, expensive fur baby. (But he's my absolute world). Before his injury, we had lots of fun schooling and long reining; flat and polework, little gymkhanas, some hacking and lots of in hand schooling. Depending how he recovers from his current injury, he may be retired altogether.

My other is a 4yo 12.3hh mini Vanner gelding who I bought because I felt sorry for him. He's not really my type but it was an inside job as my friend who i used to part-loan from rescued him after he was dumped and I just fell in love with his cheeky, devilish personality. I'm starting to back him this spring and will just be my fun little pony...predominantly hacking, beach, fun and sponsored rides and hopefully some riding for my mum too.

I have a 14.2 Welshie who has been a big pet so far for the most part, aside from a few clinics here and there.

I bought him going into the winter, so between that, him needing to be restarted, back issues, saddle issues, and my own lack of motivation, we're not doing much at the moment.

Roll on summer!

I have a 14hh traditional cob gelding , a 12hh chestnut , Welsh mare and a mini shetland gelding. All are currently field ornaments although the plan is to bring be cob back into work this summer.

They are a lovely herd and are like mum, dad and naughty child

I have a 16.2hh, 9yro, self-harming TB. She's adamant she's not on this earth to do a job, and if I try and give her one too rigorously she delights herself in coming in with a cut here or a cut there, a foot abscess, a blown up eye... all minor enough, but enough that on a Friday evening I'm cancelling my plans for the weekend. Hopefully if all goes to plan I'd like her to event, maybe up to Novice but that's a long way off.

My second is a 15.2hh, 22yro, warmblood who is absolutely the love of my life. She's retired now and living her absolute best life being fat and happy in the field with her polo pony friends.

14.1hh 16yr old Highlands mare - mainly happy hacking although she has a couple of sharers who hack/school. Hope to do a little bit of competing this year too - Show Jumping mainly. We'll see how we go.

14.1hh 11yr old New Forest mare - happy hacking and schooling. She's very green as not done much but this is our year. We've already done some hacking and she loves going out. Need to build up her muscle and get her even as she's more developed on one side so some schooling to help aid this.

I have a 17 year old, 16.2hh, German Warmblood gelding. Owned him around 3 years and he's my first horse. We normally do a bit of everything, hacking, schooling, jumping, TREC things. Just have fun basically :) I'm not the *best* rider, so he could do better schooling (now I have some money I'm having lessons!). After getting over his confidence issues, we love hacking and exploring.
He's not the best loader, I have taken him out a couple of times but this limits me going out and about and competing. i don't mind so much, he's been a great first horse and has given me so much confidence in the horse owning world. I feel like I needed that steady, safe introduction to the horse world :)

At the moment though, he is on box rest with suspected tendon injury so I'm missing our hacking and feeling a bit glum! :(

14.2 Ardennes who is a pet. Bit like having an over-sized labrador around. Super cute and cuddly and everyone falls in love with him.

15.1 draft x appaloosa who would like to become a field pet. She is doing her very best to spend all my hard earned cash at the vets. I've given up having any plans for her and would just settle for her being sound for more than 5 mins.

I've got a pet 3/4 year old 14.2 cob mare. She's had 7 months in the field to grow and towards the end of summer I'll back her and hack for a few years. I don't have great ambitions but wouldn't mind doing a bit of riding club stuff, a few local shows etc when she's older.
I'll have to see what she's good at once backed :D

Horse 1 - PRE x hannovarian gelding 16.2hh. Bought him to event (but mainly because I liked him tbh), but he doesn't sj consistently so he is a dressage horse now (with occasional galavanting around a xc course :D). He's a fairly symptomatic PSSM case, so it's taken me years to get his management and exercise right, and build up enough muscular fitness to do a sustained level of work. He doesn't have the best paces for pure dressage and is quite big and drafty, so he's an interesting training experience if nothing else (as well as being my best mate, the big goon). He's rising 9

Horse 2 - 15.2hh knabstrupper x tb mare. I bought he age 2 as a companion who I could do some dressage on in the future. She's rising 4 now and I have backed her, but I'm waiting for her body to mature a bit more before doing anything much with her. Next year probably.

Horse 3 - 14.2hh connemara mare. She was an impulse buy at the sales so I have no real plans for her yet, but she's a real sweetheart so she's just lovely to have around. She's just turned 3 and I might think about backing her later this year

I have a 17.2 8 yr old Dutch Warmblood. Hes pretty much an oversized pet with multiple problems. Hes so soft and soppy that hes got away with it!

Also rising 6yr old 16hh Dutch Warmblood. Bought her to do dressage but she hates it. Has a enormous jump so we seem to be heading in that direction instead!

I have a 13.3hh Eriskay mare who is 22yrs old, I've had her nearly 13yrs and she was my first pony, bought unbroken at 8 after being a broodmare. She taught me how to ride and never left us because she was such a fab hunting pony and being slightly feral she is a good alpha mare and keeps the herd in order!

My second pony is also with us, 19yr old Connemara who is the quirkiest pony going, had him nearly 10 years but it took about 5 of those to work him out, HUGE scope but mentally very delicate so we've always had to be very careful not to change his routine too much. He mainly just hacks these days and pops the odd fence when I need a laugh.

I bought my ISH mare 3 years ago not sure whether I was going to keep or sell on for a bit of pocket money but I'm so in love with her that she will probably stay forever. Sadly she is off work with a mystery hind lameness atm but she's only 7 so hopefully we'll get it sorted and crack on with eventing next year.

My mum has 2 shetland crosses (both dun and about 11hh) that she wants to drive as a pair, one is a very experienced driving pony (I'm terrified of driving but I have the odd play with her because she's so good) and the newer one is only 3 and not had the best start so just going slowly with him.

I have a 13hh 6 year old Exmoor gelding. Backed & started last year & slowly coming along. We went to camp last year, have been out hacking a bit & have done one Intro dressage test (mostly in reverse).
He is super cute, so very friendly & a proper character.

I have a 15.1 8yr skewbald cob x trotter mare. Typical moody opinionated madam but we understand each other most of the time
She is very green in the school and very unbalanced so we are working on that at the moment, doesn't help the school goes downhill. Am hoping to get out and do some fun rides and dressage this year

I have a 25yr old pony who I've had 16years and is my best mate. I used to drag hunt and do endurance. Now we just hack.
And a 15.2 anglo arab who is seven. I'm hoping to hunt and do endurance with her too. So far we've just done a few fun rides, hunter trial and local sj. I bought her after my pony injured her tendon and at 24 vet thought i would never ride her again. (amazingly that was wrong as she recovered to hack again). My anglo is total opposite of my pony really sweet and chilled out, i was just sold by how genuinely and nice she is. So i have two lovely horses to ride they are v different but both awsome, I am very lucky.

I have two highlands - both grey, 14,1 and near enough identical. Fergus is 12, he's done everything (dressage to a reasonable level, jumping, horseball, polocrosse, Trec, combat training and all sorts), and we just play at whatever we fancy. I mostly hack him and use him to get friends playing polocrosse at the moment, but I'll probably do some sidesaddle, dressage to music and archery with him over the next few years, which he will do sensibly, because he's basically a very decent chap. Daemon's 8, he's my jumping pony, finds dressage dull, but loves a bit of speed, though mostly hacking and terrorising the neighbourhood at present. Dae is the comedy act - he's a bit of a monster, but he can be super fun when he remembers his manners!

I also have a neon orange Quarter Horse x 5 year old mare, who I bought to play polocrosse (not that she'd played before), but to be honest, I would happily do just about anything with her - she's sweet and clever to school, charming and polite to hack, fun to jump (though hasn't done much yet), and happily turns her hoof to all kinds of Trec / western /cowboy type games. She's a proper, generous, kind mare, and I remain in awe of her most of the time. Except when she's being daft, which is just hilarious.

35 ins Shetland x miniature horse mare, 26yo. Chief field ornament and babysitter.

13.1hh New Forest x Exmoor mare, 21 yo. Used to show her but she is retired now.

13.2hh reg New Forest pony mare, 16yo. I show her. She's done local, county + national level M+M classes. Starting to do Veteran showing with her too now and I plan to see how far she can go in that.

33 ins reg mini Shetland mare, 11yo. I show her too, she's also done local, county + national level M+M classes.

11.1hh Welsh A x Shetland/miniature horse mare, 9yo. I show her but only local level as her breeding means she is not really eligible for anything else. Chief field ornament/babysitter at the top is her mother.

11hh Welsh A x Shetland/miniature horse gelding, 8yo. Full brother to mare above. Not shown him yet but I will get around to it at some point.

Just one. 14.2hh HW traditonal cob. Hes a funny little horse. I love the bones of him and him me, but he can be a right arse for other people! Hes a bit of a superstar driving pony and probably the best pony I've ever owned. Hes introduced so many people to driving now I've lost count. Hes had a rough life before me, and I fully intend to keep him to his last day.

We spend most of our time going far to fast and dont spend nearly enough time practising our dressage. I've had plans to get out to some driving trials since summer last year and my health keeps ruining that, but we are booked into a one day next month so I've got everything crossed I can stay well enough to make it this time!

I have errrrm, 5.

30 inch Miniature horse x gelding (x'd with what we have no idea but resembles a Thelwell pony) he is the love of my life, a rescue 10 years ago. He is a pampered pet, struggling in winter with arthritis a bit and summer he has chronic sweetitch. He's suspected to be in his twenties.

28 inch mini shetland gelding, 7yr old came direct from breeder, I pleaded with her to make sure he was weaned properly and day he arrived he was dragged off her trailer shouting like crazy for his mum, immediately latched onto my mini horse cross as a surrogate mum! Pampered pet.

28 inch mini shetland gelding, 13yrs old gifted from an ex-livery who got him from a children's petting zoo and had him in her back garden when she brought her big lad on livery to us, we built him a tiny stable and it's own yard and he moved in, she moved yards 11 months later and gifted him to us. Pampered pet.

15hh Connie x - late twenties, belongs to a lady who was on livery with us, we closed our yard and she was living abroad, he's remained with us as he is hard to manage and we have perfected it, he's a cheeky but lovely old gent and will live with us for the rest of his days. His owner spends most of her time abroad, so he is part of our family as we care for him totally. Retired pampered pet.

14hh gorgeous Cob mare (a number of people have suggested she may be a cob x dales) 12yrs old very new to us, has spent most of her life as a driving pony with a bit of hacking thrown in. Very green (forwards, stop, back is about it currently!) knows little about aids but works off voice commands and she's starting her Western training now she's chilled more as she has found it extremely difficult to settle into the countryside. She is hopefully going to be my western competition pony but if we don't make it we will just be Western happy hackers :)

I've 3. One 17 hh chestnut ISH. He's 16. He's retired (bad heart) so leads a life of leisure. Herding and generally organising the others is his main mission in life. He's very affectionate, quirky and a real character. He's more like a friendly (but spooky) dog than a horse. Being around him is guaranteed to put anyone in a good mood.

I have an 11 year old grey gelding, (my avatar) he's 16hh. He's very different to the chestnut. He's quieter and much less of a people horse.
He used to be very herd bound but has become a lot more confident in the last year.

He events and I do some dressage with him. I'm getting more interested in dressage but we'll have to continue to do a bit of jumping because he loves it. If we are schooling and there is a jump set up he will zoom over and try to jump it :D He also has a lovely calm temperament and is great to hack.

I also have a grey 15.2hh Irish draught mare. She's 24, retired a bit arthritic but generally content. She's much more sensible than the geldings and if she could roll her eyes at them, she would, frequently...
She's good friends with the chestnut and spends most of her time with him. She was a hunter. She also was a fantastic jumper. She is also very strong willed :)

Although they have all had/ have jobs they are really just pets.

4 mares :)
2 in work.. one Welsh who's just started competing PSG. One WB who is still green and daft but will hopefully do a bit of prelim /novice this year.

2 retired, one being my super duper horse of a lifetime who evented to novice and then dressage to advanced medium before breaking. The other is her little buddy :D

Where to start...

1yo 31" miniature horse colt - will be used for showing and when gelded driving.
2yo 32" american miniature horse filly - used for showing and will in the future hopefully drive and breed.
9yo 30" british miniature horse gelding - successful show champion being used as colts babysitter at the moment, but would be perfect for a therapy horse (if anyone wants one!!)
14yo 34" american miniature horse mare - used for breeding mostly, but also successfully shown with several championships, and now drives well
19yo 32" british miniature horse mare - used for breeding x1 but mostly just a beautiful pet as she is now retired from breeding and driving
18yo 17hh hunter used for general all rounder confidence giving riding

12 2 dartmoor gelding he is an evil sod, born bad, hes been mine all his life he is 13 now would kill a child or anyone who was rough with him. I adore him he has acute bouts of Laminitis so is on gods waiting room but is strictly managed to keep him well. I can hand on heart say he has never had a bad day in his life so no accounting for his behaviour. He has to have very strict boundaries give him an inch and he will take a mile. Kicks, bites, is needle phobic and a general pain in the ass and is absolutely adorable if he likes you
13 highland mare 23 years old again lived with me since a baby this is the most perfect of all ponies she does and has done every single thing a pony can do including having her wonderful daughter
The young Highland was born here she is a nut job cocked a snoot at showing and does everything at 100 MPH so is a cracking eventing pony will happily pop round BE 90 courses unaffiliated as she is too small to affiliate at 13hh and can contain her self long enough to do a very good dressage test accurately and calmly. She is having a ball with her teenage rider and lives with her
Finally little fatty bought her last year as a 2 year old humungously fat she is such a sweet pony who inspite of starting out as wild as a coot is now the most loving and gentle kids pony She love the kids and all the attention she gets from them I am hoping to have her broken next year as an open pony then use her for my baby grandchildren.
The are all here til my dying breath as I am old now so they will likely outlive me. Family know what to do with them so that is sorted too

I love threads like this! I have four (which is two more than intended)!

Sixpence came along first. We took him on loan when my little sister was nine, so that she could come out hacking with me and my mare and have a pony of her own to love. He looked after her like she was made of glass for the next five or six years, and was just the most perfect first pony anyone could ask for. I also credit him with keeping me sane when I lost my lovely Alice and had no idea what to do without her. Little sister doesn't really ride anymore, so he's now just a pampered and much-loved pet, and will stay that way for the rest of his days. I've been assured that I can keep him forever, and he definitely deserves that after a lifetime of being passed from one loan home to another as he was outgrown. He's now in his mid- to late-30s, and is a 13hh grey Welsh B.

Tudor came along next. He's a dark bay ISH, rising 10, and a little over 16hh. He was rescued as a two year old after being found shut away in a stable, knee-deep in his own excrement, severely underweight, abused, and with the worst worm burden the vet who treated him had ever seen. I got him at six to do a bit of everything on, but had to retire him at seven when he developed grade five head shaking. He spends his days as king of his herd, and seems more than happy to be an oversized pet.

Mary was bought as a four year old to replace Tudor as my riding horse. She's a 15hh Gypsy Cob mare. I intended to do a bit of everything on her, but those plans were put on hold eight months after getting her, when I found out she was in foal. One month later Mayflower arrived, and Mary's been on mummy duties ever since. She's now rising six and slowly being brought back into work, with the intention of doing happy hacking, low level dressage, and whatever else takes our fancy.

(She's heavily in foal there, not obese!)

Mayflower was my surprise baby. She's 11 months, Welsh D x Gypsy Cob, and about 14hh at the moment. I'm hoping that one day she'll join her mum as my second riding horse, but TBH, I love her so much that I'll keep her with me no matter what. She's beautiful, affectionate, kind, and we have a bond that I couldn't even begin to describe. I just adore her :)

We need to start a "please take some of my horses and ban me from getting more" thread haaha

We're all batshit crazy.

We currently have 7:

13yo 16hh KWPN gelding who jumps overseas with a pro friend - been successful up to 1.40m

4yo 17.2hh Belgian WB mare who’s just staring her jumping career - her first show is on Tuesday and if it goes as well as her first time away from home/first course then I think she’s going to be a cracker.

8yo 16.2hh ISH gelding who was bought to jump but has just been diagnosed with KS so is in rehab - we’re starting lunging today so have another 6-8 weeks before starting ridden work.

8yo 18.3hh KWPN gelding who jumps - he’s a big baby despite his size and is so safe... jumps anything off any stride. Is a bit of a diva on the ground due to being scared of his own shadow.

12yo 17.3hh IDx gelding who jumps - I adore this horse... he tries so hard and just wants to please.

18yo 16.3hh KWPN gelding who jumps - we mostly jump for fun as he’s getting on a bit now and isn’t capable of jumping more than 1m. He still loves it, though, and drags whoever’s riding him round.

11yo Belgian WB gelding who does dressage (ex-eventer who now hates jumping) - total diva and a giant pain in my backside but very talented - he has a lovely jump but hates jumoing so we turned to dressage about a year and a half ago. He’s pretty good but me not so much...

I have a welsh x Clydesdale mare 15.3hh and 13 years old. We compete BS medium (hoping to go advanced medium by the end of the year) and compete SJ up to British novice. We hack in company only and may do the odd sponsored ride but my main focus with her is dressage.
The my husbands horse is a 17.1hh Belgium Draft gelding, 10 years of age. The love their hacking but also compete at low level one day events and love doing hunter trials. They are braver then me and my mare and even if you don't see many Belgiums competing out there the love going out and enjoying life together!!

A 14.1hh 10 year old cob x mare, the love of my life. Bought to play with while my other horse wasn’t out of action, but fell in love and turned her into a little dressage cob. Unfortunately she was diagnosed with a rare tracheal collapse last year so she mainly does light hacking but it would be lovely to knock on a few intro doors again.

A 15hh sports horse mare who I took a punt on last year and brought as a project/rehab case. Would like to do some low level dressage with her if possible but we’ve uncovered all sorts of weird and wonderful issues that I’m addressing currently. She is an ideal companion to my other mare so she’s worth her weight in gold to me for that.

I only have Barney, 15hh cob gelding (he's got a bit of trotter and who knows what else, but he's very Welsh looking to the point we got away with showing M&M without anyone questioning him :D)
He's 17, and had to be retired at easter as he never came sound to ride after trying for a year. We used to do a bit of everything, but he did have his odd canter. He loved jumping and was just great fun, even if he was a bit difficult (he definitely taught me how to hold on). He's now retired with his girlfriend, and thinks life is great.

I am (hopefully) getting a lovely mare on loan over summer, as I can't get another horse due to uni commitments unfortunately. Don't want to say too much incase things fall through, but right now they don't seem to be :)
