Belated weekend plans!

I’m at our dressage group show tomorrow. Massive entries (40 plus in each class), so just a bit of fun and to see if I can fix our anticipation of the final halt!
Very early start (5am) so off to bed.

Doing a dressage comp on Sunday. First one I've done with the beast all year. We haven't done any shows because he was unwell for part of the year and when he was better I had lost interest in competing.

I've decided to do an upcoming dressage league because having something concrete to aim for seems to keep me focussed.

We'll see how Sunday goes but competition (dressage comps) bring out the perfectionist in me.

I find when we're at a jumping comp I'm not stressed because the horse is much better at reading a fence than I am so I don't interfere much.

Had XC training yesterday. Mr H isn’t too keen on ditches, so we went to jump a Liverpool (basically a telegraph pole front and back and flat wood base about 3 foot wide - no jump above it) and mr H stamped on the brakes and I landed length-ways very neatly in between the telegraph poles on my back. Air vest went off so very comfortable landing but I was like an upturned turtle that couldn’t right itself. Mr H beat a hasty retreat.

Oh no!! Glad you weren't hurt, that does sound like it might have been quite funny to watch tho ;)
 
Yeah am fine thanks. I aim to entertain.... Reminds me of the time was at a BE on a different horse who stopped at a ski jump thingy on a steepish slope and I cleared the jump without the horse ... annoyingly my hat camera didn’t record it (was a few years ago before the ban)
 
hahaha I did that at the now defunct Spring Hill horse trials. was our second Novice run, I had a nightmare in the showjumping which was running SOOO late, and then a certain Mr Townend tried to slip one of his rides ahead of me in the xc after I'd been waiting for what felt like hours in the warm up. I protested so he let me go in my slot, and I promptly flew over Millie's ears at the third fence. Landed on my feet facing her on the other side of the fence, hopped back on and carried on, scarlet faced from embarrassment... with the jump judge waving their form for recording falls after me. Not the best day!
 
Just back from clear round jumping, woke up with a throat full of glass shards and almost unable to talk but heigh ho.

Lovely clear round the 85, less tidy in the 90 as we landed rather forward over the double and wrong legged the turn into the fan fence, but another clear. Left the 95 as it started to rain and there was no way I fancied a soaking on top of a bug.

Proud of the funny coloured beastie!

Glad you're ok Reacher. Sounds funny but only in retrospect!
Skijjumps scare me and I've only done the piddly little one on the 80 at Kelsall! I can't imagine launching off the top of the bigger ones.

Lovely picture Fiona! You can paste a link from FB or you can drag and drop a picture file from your computer. But you'll probably need to edit it first to reduce the file size.... I'm not very good at explaining things like that though so sure someone else will be along shortly!

Snowfilly i think I would have given the last class a miss too if it was due to rain (whether I felt ill or not lol)

The dressage training show was good fun. Even though it is low key they still are using listed judges which is good because scoring feels more accurate. M did very well for his first novice scoring 63%

Highlights were the entry, free walk and halt all getting 7s / 8s, the rest were mostly 6s with some 6.5s but then a 5 for our medium trot which was expected as he just doesn't have the power yet. The rest of the trot work was nice and very rhythmical, the canter work was ok but lost a little balance from time to time and was a bit too onward bound at times :D

M behaved brilliantly and all in all I am over the moon with him. We will do the next dressage training show in a couple of weeks and then go jumping a few times before giving him a month off
 
F and pony had a brilliant day at PC show, he had such fun. Games, handy pony, fancy dress, and SJ.

I'll try to re size the fancy dress pic and put it up at lunchtime...

So Field House petplan finals didn’t go to plan. My big cob worked in beautifully and all was going well. The test started well but part way through, just before the first canter, a photographer popped out of nowhere and the cob found it very offensive indeed. He spent the rest of the test with a tense neck and with an eye fixed on the offending photographer 😄 but it’s his first big competition so he’s allowed to find things scary.

My little cob remains in horsepital. His eye has not improved at all so he is being referred to an eye specialist in the practice (albeit a small animal vet!). I’m getting increasingly worried about whether he will keep the eye, but trying to stay positive. He has had eye ulcers before, but this one covers most of the surface of the eye and is not responding to treatment. Thankfully, he is happy in himself, save for when the pump blasts his eye with antibiotics!

We’ve done bits. I’d never shown before I got him so I’m still not perfect at the turnout and presentation side of things! We’ve done a bit of local showing and the Cheshire and Warrington shows. I’m thinking of trying Search for a Star next season, but need to find some showing clinics first so I don’t make a fool of myself :D

Is it an eye ulcer dressage cob? My mare recently had a huge one, took about 6 weeks to mend, was putting in 3 different drops 3 times a day at one point - I can check the details if that is any help?

It is indeed an eye ulcer. He’s having three types of drops put in by catheter every hour since Thursday.

He’s had an ulcer before but it was nowhere near this bad :( I would be interested to hear about yours though :)

I'd have said hi if I'd known! I think I went in for my test not long after you came into warm up. For boy is gorgeous.
Hope your little cob gets better soon
 
Dressage cob - my horse was treated with Tiacil , Mydriacyl and EDTA. I got the impression the EDTA was a novel treatment for eye ulcers - my vet had read a paper about it working well in combination with the anti biotics.
This describes the theory (from The Horse.com):
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acic (EDTA, a chelating agent and anticoagulant at 0.2%) can also be administered several times a day as eye medication to reduce corneal melting.
I expect your vet is well aware of it but just in case it is of any help.
Poor lamb, hope he responds to treatment soon

Thank you! They did treat with EDTA.

Unfortunately he has not improved and today was transferred to Leahurst. His cornea isn’t melting as they feared, but it is collapsing. It isn’t looking like he will keep the eye at this point, but fingers crossed.

Going to try to get her vetted this week, so she may (MAY!) be being delivered as next week's weekend plans. There were no niggles that either my instructor or I could spot, but we're very definitely not vets.

I'm trying not to let myself get too excited until she's actually in my stable, but it's very difficult!
