Tharg, I think KC has made it perfectly obvious, at one point she was thinking of selling him, hence the price on the advert. However now, KC has decided the best thing for him would be to give him away to a good home... I think that is a lovely decision to make, putting the horse first!

[/ QUOTE ]

The advert can't be THAT old as has a EXP of April 2008, as advert are place for a 3 month period it must have been placed in January (bearing that in mind and the horses current condition, the photo is decieving).

I have never said I had no idea how old he is and I would like you to point out to me where I have said this.

As soon as I told her about the passport problem, she immediately wanted to know what proof I had of his age - I have none. Yes, I could apply for a passport, but I feel I am paying out enough, and others (ie, dealer, M, and neighbour Sue) should be putting their hands in their pockets!

Sorry, I went through some old threads last night as there was some confusion on here about when you first *advertised* for a new home for Benji - I thought it was a while ago but was wrong, that thread (containing the above quote) was actually just asking advice about the neighbour situation and indeed you have only recently been actively searching for a home for him on here - I think I, and a lot of people, have been mistaken over that one.

Quick reply:

Come on guys, give her a break...

There has clearly been some confusion, which ck has cleared up now.

She is trying to get Benji the home he needs, and obviously cares about him, and I wish her the very best of luck.

Totally agree, I think some of the accusations levelled at KC have been really mean.

Yes the horse does look poor, but he doesn't look like a charity case to me. Having loaned an aging tb who dropped weight like a bugger in winter, despite being well rugged and fed masses of hard feed and haylage, I think it is unfair to judge so harshly when she is clearly trying to do the best for the horse.

This forum is so funny. The horse looks poor. People are saying the horse looks poor. KC has had this horse for months and months and it didn't look poor before. Perhaps people look like they are being mean but perhaps they aren't, and are just concerned for this horse's welfare?

Funny how it is okay for "our own" to have poor looking horses on here and yet not okay for others outwith this HHO community to have horses in poor condition....

or maybe those who don't think it looks poor secretly think they might quite like it - and want to stay ' on side'.

Yes it does look poor, I'm not sure why, I think this horse has needed and deserved more attention over the last few months - and most of all I hope that sensible feeding and care can restore condition - and that a new home is found asap.

I do try very hard not to be judgemental though. If somebody is asking for help then that is a positive step and shouldn't be knocked, and is a whole lot better than some of the people we read about who either refuse help, or hide their horses until they are beyond help or even dead or even don't know that the horse needs more attention.

If KC didn't care about the horse it is not that far to Potters, and it would have generated some cash - so credit where it is due for at least trying to do the right thing and admitting that she has too many horses to cope with in terms of available stabling and grazing.

Haven't been involved in this, but have just looked at the photo in the ad and it is not one I would have chosen. Not because of the horse, but because there is some sort of optical illusion that makes it look as if the reins are running under the throat lash!

Yes I agree with you, KC is trying to do something about the horse. Maybe this is the difference between people though; if this were my horse I would have sorted out the passport issue months ago. Then she could have sold the horse before it got to this condition. If KC had just dropped the price to a value which was more realistic then I feel fairly confident that someone would have considered taking him on. By holding out for the full price she was owed, she has inadvertantly placed herself in this unfortunate situation.

I do realise she has been put in an awful position and I do actually feel sympathy for her to have been dumped on like this.....but I also feel sorry for the horse. For me, first and foremost is always the welfare of the horse I'm afraid.

The people slagging KC off are a punch of pathetic prats. the 'normal' lot who like to have a dig at everyone are out again, you dont make valid comments you have a dig at anyone you can . Benji does look poor but i have a TB who is fed quality hay and food, rugged upto her eye balls wormed etc. and every winter she drops off . So just give her a break, i know many of the ones im referring to would have him in a can of dog food in five minutes, but obciously KC is concerned about this horse and wants it to have a good caring home.

Sorry I should have made it clear I wasn't being judgemental more offering advice re the price she could get for him and offering advice re his teeth and a tapeworm test.
It appears no matter what she sells him for she will lose money anyway, and I don't think the horse is badly cared for, more a case of perhaps his teeth need doing or specialist worming.
I am more concerned that this "friend" will suddenly appear if KC sells him and demand her share.. I think ownership including a passport (or agreeing with his former owner to apply for a new one) must be settled first before anyone takes the horse.

I have read all these posts on Benji with much interest, and whilst I appreciate that people have varied views, I'm amazed how people seem so anti to KC, yes the advert post was misleading, but the reasons have been explained.

I think it would be in the best interest of the horse to find a home asap, quit all the replies to the posts which are irrelevant at the end of the day and put the welfare of thie horse as top priority.

How we would have handled this situation is of no consilation to KC, this is how she has done so whether we agree or not.

All this bickering serves no purpose its neither helpful or informative , I know it has stirred alot of emotions seeing the horse in such as bad condition, I only hope it is rehomed very quickly and finds a loving permenent home.

Sorry don't mean to offend anyone, but enough is enough!

No KC is defo genuine. I've got a couple of spare boxes and paddocks so offered to collect Benji the same day and just pay a VERY nominal fee to ensure there was no dispute over ownership down the line.
It was decided another home may be more suited but she didnt ask me for money.
Just hope he get's a nice home soon.

I have been browsing for some time now and TBH I'm not sure about this. There have been valid points made on both sides of the argument.

Thanks, Wonky Donkey! I've had enough of this online bullying! Think I've found Benji a home now but I shall sift through everyone's PMs to make sure I'm making the right choice! Passport identifier coming on Wednesday, so he can't go immediately in any event. This forum is such a bitch pack!

Yes, I agree the picture is slightly deceiving... but I can guarantee there are more deceiving ones out there. I went looking at a stunning WB on paper, but when I got there I was so disappointed, and wouldn't even get on him! That was a horse advertised for £8,000 on a very reputable website!

As for him dropping condition, I would hate for you to see pictures of Han at the moment compared to her in the summer... She is wormed (and tested), fed lots of fibre which includes adlib haylage and yet she is still looking under weight
blush.gif
I suppose you could say it is because she is in work... but how about Grace. She has been on box rest now since November and I am really struggling to keep the weight on her. She is on full rations of Alfa A, TopSpec and Alfa Beet, but she is only just on the right side of being too thin. I can afford to buy my horses the more expensive balancers etc. but I have to say, if I was in KC's position, I would be a bit strapped for cash if I was having to pay for expensive feed for a horse that was not mine. I would try to keep it as best as I could, but sometimes you simply cannot afford it. She did not chose to own this horse, and is trying her damndest to find him a suitable home, and for that I have nothing but admiration for her!

Thank you! Turn to page 31 (I think) of this week's H&H and you will see a photo in the point-to-point section of Scare Lotte on her way to winning the Novice Riders race at Horseheath last week. We own Scare Lotte's dam, Scare McClare, and she is a hatrack in the winter! We've had her teeth done, we've had her blood tested - there is nothing wrong with her but still she looks so poor. We stuff her with so much food (plenty of calorific weight gain stuff) that a friend couldn't believe the amounts of feed we were shoving into her.......yet still she looked poor! Come summer, she looks amazing. Speaking to her forner owner (who bred and owns Scare Lotte), he said of our mare "Oh, she always looks like that in winter!".

Reckon Benji's the same .

I rest my case. Let's concentrate on finding a lovely home for poor Benji! (Which I think I may have found!)

Thank you and please view my above reply to the_watcher! Had I been money-grabbing, I'd have sent him to the sales. Remember, I am the one coming away from this completely empty-handed (in fact about £2,000 down!).

I think it is more pathetic having two user accounts. If you want to say something you should do it under your original account

only those who agree.......................................

with someone, whoever that may be, who thinks its OK to "sell" a horse that is undernourished, underweight, has no passport, advertised with a fruadulent photograph, with no mention of it's "vices", etc, etc............

as i've said in previous replies, ...if this animal was some random creature in the local press, then there would be a mass HHO backlash..........

double standards in the highest degree...............
