I am looking for a new pair of trimmers. Had Lister Meteor for years which were brilliant but the charge is not as good now and they are no longer available. I just trim poll area, fetlocks and tail also clip off half my mare's face when doing a blanket clip in winter. I know you chaps will be able to recommend me a good pair. Thanks in advance.

I had lister meteors too, they were brilliant until the battery died. OH replaced it for me once (bit of soldering needed) but then the casing got broken and I had to admit defeat. I have replaced with the Liveryman Classic and I am very pleased with them, this is the second winter I've been using them and I find them ideal for awkward places and heads etc. they come with combs the same as the meteors did and there's also a sliding adjustment on the blades so you get a good range of clips.

i've got Liveryman Classics too, and they are fab. I've done a trace clip with them this year (well - one side of the horse, but got bored and stopped - really should finish him!) and they did a great job on a pretty thick coat!

As an aside I wouldn't be tempted to try a full clip if you are using Liveryman Harmony Clippers (not trimmers) I did last night & it was a disaster ?

Blades too small & nowhere near enough oomph for a 15.3 ISH ?

Were you using the wide or narrow blades? The wide blades were plenty for my 14.3hh cob.

I use the Wahl/Moser Avalons, have done two blanket clips with them so far and scaredy cat welsh just falls asleep, doesn’t mind then round his face or anything. And I love that you don’t have to tension them. However for ears/legs I use cheapo dog clippers from eBay- they were about £7! But they’re actually pretty decent for trimming, they come with a set of guards so I can take his leg fluff back without worrying about him getting cold.
