I would heartily recommend a solar energiser, this should recharge itself and often have the ability to be recharged using a USB port/Mains plug.
If you do go for one that uses a battery go for a Leisure not car battery as these are designed to be recharged frequently whereas a car battery is designed to stay continuously recharged via the alternator as the car is used.

I have a Rutland ESS610 solar energiser which is over 10 years old. However this has to be recharged by leaving it in sunlight turned off whereas some of the newer ones you can put the initial charge in via plugging into mains with a charger.

e.g Mole valley https://www.moleonline.com/mole-electric-fencing-custodian-25-solar-energiser-1177975

If you use a standard car battery you will be constantly having to carry it home to recharge and I speak from experience, having ruined a brand new pair of jods doing just that (with acid from the battery) it's a real pain.

However if you want a battery fencer Mole do some good ones also Rutland

I use a shockrite energiser I bought off ebay with a lorry battery (husband HGV mechanic). Also, if I need to give the battery a quick boost, I stick jump leads onto our car whilst we are there onto the battery to give it a little boost.

Thankyou, not had to use electric before but mine has once again started jumping out over the post and rail, he really respects electric ft past yards we have been on so I'm going to make him an electrified pen within the field

I use car or lorry batteries as that's what we've got kicking about, lorry one lasts ages but it's really heavy (i get OH to move them around :p)
i bought one of these last year as you can pop D cell batteries in if you don't have a spare battery while you charge yours up. what i really like about it is the ability to turn up the pulse rate, one of mine is an escape artist and if i turn it up so it pulses at the max rate even she won't take the fence on.

I went for the Fenceman CP450 Which still has the swappable battery option, wanted one with a bit more whack on the ex racer that shares my field runs through fencing. My old lad hasn't been out whilst the storms have been about, my mare was out today and is muzzled already as shes a chunk and I have to be careful. She was funny as she didn't want to touch the fencing but was trying to be brave and touch it with her muzzle on, I hope she doesn't realize that she can't feel it when her fat mask is on as she can be a bull dozer.

Bastard pony gelding went through the fence today with the D Cell batteries in it on full power so the big battery is on charge for tomorrow and I am going to put him out in a no neck rug plus make him touch the fence. Was absolutely fuming. I've done all this fencing as a last ditch attempt to keep him out for a couple of hours every day. He has Cushing's and is 30yo so not rideable. If this doesn't work then I will be calling time and have him PTS. Standing in 24/7 is no life for any animal.
