What do you think is the best insurance in the UK and why? What insurance company would you stay away from and why? I plan to change mine and would like to hear your experience, please.
Avoid - E&L. My horse was with them and had to have dental surgery which was covered by the insurance but took them a VERY VERY long time for them to process claim and to pay out to the extent we were recieving very stroppy letters from the vets!!!! Have heard similar comments from other people about late payouts.
Am with kbis and they are fantastic...have paid up for things no questions asked
Was with seib for a while many yrs ago thet were too very good...cancelled for a small time, when i rang to get another quote few yrs later( only wanted to insure my horse for £2k...obviously he is worth slightly more than this but i would get an adequate youngster to replace him god forbid that ever happened)...they wanted a bloody 5 stage vetting

That is correct
,alot of vets now insist you pay the bill and claim yourself from the insurance
amazes me how they are still in usiness with the bad coverage we horsey people give them
I am with NFU and I'm really happy with them, I have had 2 claims and I have just had to pay the excess to the vet and the rest has been sorted out quickly and easily.
People complain about E&L, and seem to worship NFU, but TBH I had a big incident a few years ago, meaning my horse had to have surgery to relieve a twisted gut (low flying airplane made him bolt into a deep ditch).
I was insured with NFU at the time, and the claim took months and months. They decided to pay everything in stages, which was quite frankly ridiculous, as it was all going to the same vets, and in the end we cancelled the remainder of the claim which was left being processed as we were ourselves gettin gthreatened with court action if the remainding few hundred wasn't paid, which we just paid for ourselves.
Added ot that a number of peole at our yard with E&L who have claimed from them and never had any trouble, we decided to save a good few hundred quid a year, and have taken out a policy with them. Shock horror going against the norm I know, but then I care more about logicalities than say-so and popularity.
AIMS (0800 834866) are a very friendly company, horsey staff - i have insured for years and claimed with no problems. My OH just insured new horse with them inc £5000 vets fees for £12 a month!
More experiences with E&L wanted here, as I am tempted by their cheap prices, but if the claiming really is that difficult as I've heard, I don't want to get involved.
