Best horsey area to buy property

Can anyone sway me one way or the other? I would love to stay in the south east, but unfortunately my budget doesnt stretch that far.

currently looking at these areas:
Derbyshire
Cambridgeshire
Wiltshire
Dorset
Hampshire
East Sussex
Kent
Beds/Berks/Bucks ( unlikely it will be affordable )
Surrey/West sussex - ( my ideal area, but again probably unaffordable )

Looking for 5 acres minimum.

So whats the best/worst about these places? What should i look out for? what is the ground like? etc etc.

I live in Bedfordshire and there are quite a few places which are affordable, you just need to get a little remote and away from the main traffic links ...

Good luck, I am just waiting for my lottery ticket to come good and then buy my ideal horsie world :D

Without knowing your budget its difficult but when I was looking at houses earlier this year (budget nowhere near having land, just have enough garden for 1 dog :D and saw a few properties dotted around in rural bedfordshire and was surprised.

My uncle lives in Wisbech in Cambs and I have seen equestrian properties quite reasonably priced in that area too !!

Sorry not to be of much more help - personally I would just look at a map, look for more rural towns and tap the name into Rightmove and go from there, obviously with a glass of wine and chocolate to help along the way :)
 
Have rodbaston, kingswood, Scope, marchington on the door step. Within 1hr - 1hr 30, prescott, hartpury, aintree, gracelands, solihull, summerhouse, southview, and the list goes on! Easy motorway access and plenty of yards and training around here
 
wow sounds fab! im going to look at google maps and find out exactly where staffs is? Also how far is it from London town!

Im not that useless at geography - but ive only been living in the Uk for 10 years LOL!
 
We just bought an equine property

This is the yard the day we moved in. I have 4 boxes, 4 acres, building a menage and a 5 bedroom house. Yard has separate access. I love it I am so lucky!

badger - do you miss london at all? are there lots of horsey types?

Im terrified of moving to a new area basically - i have a fab network of horsey friends here and the riding club/etc but its time to buy and move on with my life? just wish the south east wasnt so expensive

- to whoever suggested eaequestrian - theres 1 or two properties i like but i know nothing about cambs as an area or what its like - same with lincs! so does anyone want to fill me in?
 
Lincolnshire always seems like the cheapest place for rural property when people put threads on here, but there is never much land - usually three stables and 1 acre!

Staffordshire is lovely, but seems a long way from London. You're lucky to do it in two hours - it can be more like three usually if the M6 is at its worst. I would be inclined to look the other side of Spaghetti junction if I were you.

Cambridgeshire would be a quick journey back to London and is not that expensive away from Cambridge itself.

Milkmaid that property is lovely, but at £700k its hardly at the cheap end of equestrian properties!
 
Thanks, i am looking at one with rural scene tomorrow.

I love Wilts and i would have snapped that up, a few months ago, but then my fiance left me so my budget is now a bit smaller than that!

OK, now i need wine. and chocolate.

Sorry for picture overload. This was around 500k. ALOT less than some around here! You can find some lovely small houses and cottages around with land and lovely stables in staffordshire and shropshire :)
 
Cheaper properties in Lincs/Cambs/Norfolk tend to be in what we call the Flatlands. Which is okay if you like totally flat country. It is Fenland (reclaimed land) and tends to be wet and windy on a still dry day IME. I know that people struggle in the bottomless mud in the winter time. That is why it is so cheap. Wisbech is IMO an awful place!!!

Noth Lincs gives you a bit more for your money. BTW we are selling ours. PM if you want details.
