Hello. In the process of pony purchase and will need to insure him. He'll be used for hacking, flatwork, and PC activities, no XC.

Any advice on best insurers, or ones to avoid will be much appreciated.

i'm with petplan, we've had a lot of unexpected vetbills to say the least!- but they have always paid out. excess is steep at £500 a time though, but they do have an option where the excess cost is less.

I had a successful and super easy claim with horse-insurance, underwritten by E&L which used to be a barge pole company, but they seem to have sorted it out.. They could easily have wiggled out of the claim had they been so inclined (pay out was for lymphangitis, cellulitis was already an exclusion).

My vets still won't deal with E&L or variations thereof directly so I am still avoiding as it suits me better for insurers to settle with the vets direct rather than me pay the bills and claim them back.

I've had good service from KBIS over the years.

I have always found Petplan very good. Whoever you go with, make sure you read the policy thoroughly so you know what you are and aren’t covered for.
