I bought a lead rope for £10 at my local saddlery and its not even three months old and the clip snap is already getting stiff and hard to push down. Can anyone recommend a brand that lasts? I think it's the spring part inside that's Stiffening up or maybe got dirt in it? Just wondering what everyone uses and what brands of halters and lead ropes last the longest.

I will only use leather headcollars as they will snap if a horse gets caught up - better that a headcollar breaks than a pony's neck!
I have ponies so sometimes foal/yearling headcollars in their largest sizes fit - at present the ponies have Hy foal headcollars in L and XL - these are neat, very good value indeed and if you look after them they last well. (Sorry, can't help with good makes if larger sized hoss)

I also by-pass the clip issue a bit as I use looped-through ropes with no clips (usually ropes where the clips have got damaged so we've taken them off) for leading in from the field for safety - the ropes can just fall away in an emergency.
Clipped ropes used to tie up in stable or yard - just use standard ones from local agricultural merchant.

When I meant don't break I meant the metal parts sorry should have been clear. I also like leather head collars more and also don't leave a head collar in when the horse is stabled or out in the field.

I have a rope from Idolo tether tie which is 3 years old and looks brand new! This is despite youngster chewing on the rope and the clip at every opportunity, they’re not cheap (think mine was about £25 but is a long rope) but I would have spent more than that on cheapy ones over the years for sure and the longer length is very useful
