Hi all,

As per title. My horses have been in a field with some pine trees and alas I find them all in a sticky mess! They are absolutely covered in tree sap which might as well be glue, what a state! At the moment they are smothered in baby oil and mayonnaise (I read this online and, well, in desperation...) but it isn't coming out yet. It's been half an hour. Any ideas please??

God knows ...I got pine sap on the car once and it took over a year to wash it off/dissolve it...Im guessing that's not what you need to hear. Perhaps itll come off with the winter fuzz..? LOL

You're probably on to something with your oil and mayo. I got it out of my mare's coat with Effax leather balsam (also oily gunge) a few years ago, though it did take a bit of massaging in!

omg.. no that's not what I want to hear!! Lol. I have left the mayo on overnight. Failing that it may be coming off with the winter fuzz.... :0

ok.. well fingers crossed. I also read peanut butter... also because of the oil. I am starting to regret putting them in that field now!!!

Oh dear! My long haired cat got pine sap on himself last year. I tried washing him, talc, and all sorts, In the end I had to cut it off. He smelled nice though.

I opened the thread hoping you meant clothes - putting it in the freezer works, break of the mass and then massage the stain with oil. But not with a horse obviously! Oil is going to be the only thing. Get between the sap and the coat. If you have to clip it off be careful it doesn't gunge up your clippers!

Thanks guys. The Mayonnaise and baby oil soaked overnight seems to have worked well. I got about 80% reomved so far and have now ran out of mayo! :D

Lol, was wondering how you were getting on! good luck with the remaining bits. Horrible stuff, isn't it!
