Best price 4 step plastic mounting block or used?

As title really - this is what I need but on main sites they are sooooo expensive! Any ideas? Can’t build one as needs to be easily movable at the yard.
 
If it's got to be easy to move don't go for the ones called "premium" mounting blocks with the black grippy strips. We have a 3 step one and its heavy and awkward. I had a Stubbs moulded one a while back that was better. Can't help on the spendiness though :/
 
Thanks both! Re price - just seems that there is a huge hike between 3 steps and 4 😱. Re moving - has to be draggable or liftable for short distance in sand school so wheels might be a problem...

I’ve got a 3 step one and find it easy enough to move? One of these. It’s 62 cm tall, the 4 step version is 82cm tall. I do find the steps quite small to put my big feet on though, and the steps are more cramped again on the 4 step block. I much prefer using the large homemade and not easily moveable wooden mounting block that OH made. It lives in the corner of the arena.

Are you wanting one for mounting near stables and one for on/off situations in the school? If so, two cheaper home made ones might fit the bill??

ah well I always have to take it in and out of the school, one handed while leading a horse. as we're not allowed to leave it in there. I guess if you can use both hands it's not that bad! :p

These steps always bring me out in the heebie jeebies when they are mentioned as suitable for mounting blocks! I always think the potential for a horse or pony to get a leg caught if having a fidgety moment is too high. Probably fine if you are just using it for one rock solid, bombproof horse you know well, but in a situation where it might be used by a variety of different horses with varying temperaments and levels of schooling it would be a 'no' from me.
 
I bought one off Ebay, made by hand from deck board. It cost about £90 and is so much better than the plastics ones, particularly for getting on my 17hh 'pony'. It is heavy and doesn't move easily. I love it.
 
Hi all thanks loads for all your replies! I do have an Ikea wooden step stool but as my boy is a Clydie (or Belgian - we are not sure) cross its not big enough for me to get on when no one else is there to hold the other stirrup. Ideally I would like to be quite high so that i have the chance to put some weight on the offside of the saddle as I get on. I am allowed to leave the block at the edge of the school as other liveries may use it there but it does need to be movable. Otherwise I know my OH would be itching to make one, especially as he bought a fancy new saw this week (😜). Asmp - am heading off to look at that website......
P.S. that is not him in my picture (just before loads of people tell me he is neither Clydie nor Belgian).

Fair comment.Mine is (after much training!) bombproof, but probably wouldn't suit all types.

Tried JSW4Jumps - sadly no seconds and still as pricey with delivery. Tried Pre-Loved but nothing there either. 😞 Will end up following that vid from Kelly Marks and teaching him to stand next to the post and rail round the school if nothing turns up! 🤪
 
i've got the 4 step one with the black strips on it. It is movable as it has holes either side so you can pick it up. if it's a flat surface, it's easy to push around. In an arena you'd probably need 2 hands to move it or it would drag the surface with it. i think it was about £150 as it was twice as much as a 3 step one but they aren't tall enough for me as i've got 2 hip replacements and my youngster is 16.3

in my field i use a wooden picnic table.... £70 and solid as they come!

Yep, used to have one of these foldable steps in the lorry. One day getting on my youngster out at his first show he moved off a bit sideways and put his hind leg through the steps. Fortunately he was amazingly sensible and just shook his leg until the steps came away. I get on from the lorry steps now!

Also agree that they are pretty low.

You're right, QuantockHills, for some reason one extra step costs twice as much! The 3 step one at my local agri supplier is 650mm high which is not high enough - the big lad is about 16.3 and I don't want the saddle to slip at all. I have this post on the Equestrian Deals forum page as well, but tho there have been a fair amount of views I have had no response there.
Might have a look at the jump stands already in the school, Golden Willow, it's a good idea but not sure about stability.....

Ah, I’ll tweak its positioning slightly by dragging it one handed whilst holding a horse in the other hand, but to carry it in and out of the arena would defo be a two handed/no horse job :).
 
Just resurrecting my old thread - I bought a three step block but as i mentioned before that a four step would be easier. And that is especially as he is bigger now than he was then! They seem to be about 175.00 - unless anyone has a used plastic set that they want to sell on?
 
I would definitely train him to stand next to the perimeter fence, that way you will be high enough to step down onto him with no risk of the saddle moving, It will also stand you in good stead if you have to get off whilst hacking!
