Ok, as riders we all sweat when we work hard, I just havent worked out the best clothing for it yet! Not wanting to sound disgusting, but I had a lesson yesterday and despite only having a lightweight crew clothing long sleeve polo shirt on I was a sweaty mess with visible pit stains and a sweaty back- nice! I had put on plenty of good quality anti perspirant beforehand.

Can anyone recommend the best type of clothing to wear which will 'dry out' quickly after a lesson etc without having to have bare arms? Even in freezing winter I still have this problem but don't want to strip off!

Something technical. I have a xc top by musto which is like that abd i think the sweat passes through it. Its black anyway so u cant see! Also rohan do some but i dont like those as much. They wash and dry very quickly too which is a bonus so u can wear tgem every day.

You need a technical fabric (avoid cotton at all costs!) - like what you'd go running in or hiking. Decathlon are great for a wide range of sports clothing and their hiking/walking tops are brilliant. Pretty cheap and good quality. I never ride in anything cotton as I'm a bit of a sweaty betty, I use all my gym/running/hiking stuff instead. Primark also do gym/running clothes, they have long sleeve tops as well as vests and t-shirts so you've got some options there.

My go to deodorant is mitchum - all supermarkets/chemist sell it and you literally stop sweating (well from your armpits anyway!), its amazing. Its a bit powdery and does leave white marks but if you are doing any kind of sport or likely to get sweaty its brilliant as you dont have to worry about pit stains!

I also second this stuff, I use the roll on liquid/gel stuff rather than the stick. Its the best one IMO. I've got a Puffa technical long sleeved XC top which is really good, although generally I just wear a short sleeve polo top for lessons. The one thing I never ride in is fleece, so hot!

Yep, third the Mitchum :D
Also the technical tops - I use long sleeved running tops or cycling tops, usually sourced from TKMaxx or Aldi.
In the summer the cycling tops are fab for hacking out as they have pockets on the back for your phone etc as well.

Another vote for running/cycling tops. I don't really agree with using products to stop the body sweating. It is sweating for a reason and you should let it get on with it if you do not want to cause problems.

Get yourself down to a sporty shop, asap! I ride in running tops, skiing base layers, tennis shirts, anything technical/wicking. Works wonders for keeping you cooler when riding, and no sweaty stains. You can pick them up really cheaply - I use the sports direct website, most cost under a tenner if you don't mind a varied array of colours :D

Another vote for mitchum deodorant and technical running/cycling/sports tops - keep an eye out for the Aldi special deals. Most of my stuff comes from there!

As an aside (and with reference to previous threads on the subject) Aldi sports underwear is also good for riding in... :)

p.s. - I don't work for them :D

My OH bought me a technical top for Christmas from Piekur ( Hope thats a near enough spelling!!!) it keeps you warm in the winter and I must admit it was so good I went and bought some more. The other thing they do is not get sweaty. I have been riding my lessons in mine and they have worked a treat

Technical stuff, base layers think tennis, hiking, running, cycling. Sports Direct and Ebay are your friends! :) I like Underarmour personally as it fits me best and have used it since my rugby days and i am a hot sweaty kinda gal too! Works wonders.

As others have said avoid cotton like the plague!

Just bought a Kastel Training Top from Dressage Deluxe for XC! they have mesh under the arms and its super light-weight.

Any of the thermal base layer type tops are amazing warm in winter and cool in summer, can get them in high viz too

I'm another "Sweaty Betty" I'm afraid........ going through The Dreaded Change and I'm constantly in a state of fluctuating temperature, either too cold, or way too hot. Seldom just right. The problem with sweating up under clothes is that you then will cool very quickly, and if you're in the wind particularly you're then at high risk of catching a nasty chill. I know coz I've done it.

You don't need to spend a fortune. I've got some excellent little running tops from places like Aldi & Lidls which you can slip on underneath, or double them up even. Like someone else has said, avoid cotton like the plague as this will only hold moisture.

Similarly you may find that you need to ditch the jods you're currently wearing and try a pair of riding tights which the Endurance riders wear. Performance Equestrian, for example - there are others - (am NOT advertising!!) is a good place to start, or I got some nice "Equetech" ones a few years ago (sorry can't remember where tho'). The fabric is specially designed to wick away any moisture and keep you cool when needed and/or insulate you if its colder. If you really want to splash out then a pair of Kerrits are what you need; I bought a pair and they kept me really nice and cool in the lovely weather we had last summer, well worth the money.

You can also get Cool Mesh riding gaiters (Performance Equestrian have them, plus others). Its worth looking under the heading of "endurance riding wear" as these people are used to dealing with changing climates and their clothing is specially designed for this discipline.

I usually top up with an "Equafleece" hi-viz Endurance fleece (got mine when they had them in their catalogue); find the ordinary hi-viz jackets like Luna Rider make me sweat like I've been wrapped in clingfilm, yuchhh.

I tend to avoid anti-perspirant as I'm one of these daft people that develops sensitivities to things; used some of the brand name stuff once and came up in a very nasty rash after I'd sweated in it, so don't use it anymore. The only ones I can use are the Dead Sea Salt roll-on ones.
