I've been through 2 shavings forks on the last 5 months. We've bought new heads for the one that's just broken but they don't fit, aaaah! I just wondered if anyone could recommend me a decent fork brand which is likely to last more than a couple of months. TIA :)

I don't know what mine is called, will try to find a link. It's wooden handle with a little (or large but I find them difficult!) red polycarbonate basket at them end. I've had mine since I got Red 3 years ago.

£30 but well worth it, YO has had his 6 years nearly. He works at the local feed store and has tried almost every one they have!

This is the one I have.

I love that it comes up at the sides, because I'm so clumsy I'd drop it all otherwise.

I'm going to stop gushing about a shavings fork now! 🙈

Future fork - lightweight and effective with shavings and hemp-type bedding. About £40, I think.

Worth EVERY penny and then some. Balanced, ergonomic and highly efficient. I had my horse for 17 years and only had 2 in the whole time, and one of those mysteriously got broken by someone who used it without my permission. I would say they are almost unbreakable as long as you don't go digging up buried bricks in the field. I used aubiose and they are the absolute best for that as that is what they were designed for, but I happily did shavings and even straw beds with it when I was doing holiday cover. And poo picking in the field of course. My Future fork now does sterling service around the garden picking up leaves and hedge clippings etc.

Another vote for future forks. Light and very well balanced. I do find that the handles do eventually break where they fix to the head but that is partly due to me banging them quite vigorously on the wheelbarrow (muck out 9 horses each day and fork up the field droppings with it). Replacement handles are not expensive.

I order mine on-line but sorry, it is so long since I have had to do an order I can't remember where from.
