Hi,

wanted a thermatex type rug but the problem is thermatex rugs are so expensive. What is the best alternative? I have looked at weatherbeeta and Premier equine. Looking for recommendations....

thanks x

Personally I think the thermatex perform better than the premier equine version, having tried both.
Keep an eye on Facebook/eBay etc, they often appear 2nd hand for a decent price.

I looked for one on fleabay a while ago, there were quite a few that seemed to have been bought in a seconds sale, and were being sold on. Prices were a bit steep I thought but I know they hold value

I didn’t like the fit of the Premier Equine Premtex but really like the Mark Todd Coolex and you can buy a neck cover too!

I’ve got the Le mieux it performs just as well but the fit isn’t so good.
The best, and what I would stretch to where possible, is Lansdown

I’ve got a Thermatex and Weatherbeeta. Both are great rugs. I prefer The Thermatex as it’s softer but the Weatherbeata is a very good quality rug.

I bought a Thermatex for my first horse 20 years ago. I still have it and use it. Great quality.

Only damage due to OH giving it to the dogs to sleep on when we had some work done on the house and dogs had to stay in the garage for the day. Dogs chewed one of the straps!

Bought my thermatex rug on eBay , they were sold as "seconds" as the stitching wasn't quite right . I examined carefully with my beady eye and couldnt spot the stitching problem . Cant find seller on my account as I'd bought it last year , pretty sure I paid around £40/£50 with postage . Even the second hand ones go for more than that .

I managed to get a brand new Fal version in a sale for £25. I like it much more than Thermatex or any of the knock offs. Its not as thick as a thermatex and is a much better shape. It hasnt stretched at all so far

I've got a PE one and actually I quite like it.
Loan horse came with the Mark Todd version with a neck cover. Really like that one. I use it a lot and it always washes like new.

I agree with this. I got the premier equine for my share horse after lots of people on here recommended it, but I've found the fit very small. It's very tight fitting round the neck and a bit short on the sides, and this is on a finely built horse for whom the length is fine. I don't like that there's no way to adjust the neck straps.
