Best type of stirrups and why

Tech Venice for jumping as they have the quick release and the Athena for dressage. Super smart stirrups, rust free and excellent grip on tread

I'm pretty broken, but I've never felt inclined to try out expensive stirrups and see if they help. Am I missing out?!

ah see the reason I have the knock offs was because I wasn't prepared to pay for sprengers before trying something similar and knowing it helped ;)

I have gone for lighter plastic ones just to keep the weight down as I ride a pony but that has been the only conscious decision I have made about stirrups. I fall into the camp of they tend to be just what is on the end of the leathers.

Yes and no. Helps one of my wonky parts, but just made a different, less bandy part, more bandy...

Having said that, maybe the alternative would be worse, so watch this space... (if I manage to get horse out orienteering more than once next year)

Sprengers for me. I can’t remmeber the exact model but they have the flexible sides I think. I bought these years ago as kept getting pain from standard stirrups. They’re fabulous, I can last hours in the saddle and not have pain. I wear my traditional stirrups for showing and can definitely feel the difference after a day with them! Think they may be bow-balance?

I lied. Just googled, they’re system 4s? Pretty sure they weren’t called that when I ordered but who knows.

I have composite ones. They have a wide foot bed and they're slightly angled. They're a knock off of some brand (I'm not sure what one) I like them cause they have a very good grip. Very handy for XC in the rain.

I don't know if the angles make any difference, I just got them because they looked sturdy.

Very interesting thread as was debating to treat myself to a posh pair of stirrups for my Christmas present from Hubby (very lucky I get to pick exactly what I what lol!)

I've tried the flexi ones in the past but didn't get on with them, found they made my ankles ache. I'm thinking of going with something that has a nice wide grippy tread. Like the look of the Jin Evol's but the price is rather eye watering!...

Wouldn't it be great if you could try before you buy! Before long there will probably be such thing as a "stirrup clinic" just like there are biting clinics, sheath cleaning clinics etc. Very clever marketing involved in the horse world isn't there!

I use smart rider, I have them in pink and brown. I use them because I hack a lot on my own and they snap apart and you are not dragged, if you fall off. I also think they are fun. You can use black for dressage but I swap back to plain old boring usual ones when I do that.
