Best walkie talkie radios for teaching. Please advise, TA!

can you not get a mobile contract with free calls to a certain number, put that number phone with the rider (in pocket obviously!!) and give them a bluetooth headset?

first idea that popped into my head, no idea if it'd work or not?




oh, and the second idea that popped in was....''ooh! mince pies!! yumm!'' im quite amazed i managed to remember the first idea after that!
 
I use Uniden ones. You need headsets (ear piece and boom mic) for both. Set the instructor's one to auto-transmit (as they speak). Do not set the pupil's headset to auto-transmit or you will cancel each other out as the pupil's mic will switch on for breathing, gusts of wind, talking to the horse, etc.

Even the cheapest will work as you are only ever going to be within a few metres of each other and have line of sight.

Just be aware that they keep transmitting if you go the toilet. I really loved hearing my instructor on the loo that one time...
 
Excellent, thanks!! Mobile deals here in spain are crap, as are the mince pies, but I shall manage without!!!! Rioja in hand... Qwertyuiop, (love the name!!!) do you also use Uniden headsets etc? and just to be really awkward, any website that sells and posts to europe??? Will note the loo thing as I am a tad forgetful!!! I think the headsets were whipped off some other radios. They all use the same 3.5mm connectors anyway (not the same electrical connections as MP3 players).

I got my Unidens from Argos.Lidl/Aldi occasionally do them, complete with headsets (I bought some cheap as a backup). Have a look on eBay as I am sure they all come from the Far East anyway.
