So in brief I would like peoples thoughts on the best way to get my horses to Hampshire ( circa 190 miles ) as I am moving next month.......unfortunately large horsebox in not an option as my horse will not load.
I have a 16hh 5yr old who is an excellent traveller in a trailer but done 30 miles max and never been on a motorway but has been on a dual carriageway in heavy traffic and a ID x Yearling who is 9 months and travelled twice alone in a trailer 15 miles down country lanes only once with a partition and once loose with back doors closed - both times she was brilliant

1. I hire a 3.5T and travel both together - risking that I can get them loaded and they cope in a lorry

2. Hire a double IW Trailer and large tow vehicle and travel them together, closing back doors

3. Make two journeys using my IW 403 and travel yearling loose with loads of bedding and back doors closed and travel Henri as normal only closing back doors if he panics on the motorway with the large lorries ( which I doubt he will )

I am looking to travel very early Sunday mornings so traffic should be quiet.

Thank-You and any other suggestions welcome

I wouldn't use a 3.5 ton lorry, I doubt if it will have the payload to carry both your horses legally.

Call in a specialist who can work with your horse & they should be able to get your horse to load. When that's sorted, & it needs to be, you will be able to take both horses in one trip in a lorry.

I would get them loading well into your trailer, then hire the ifor and take both out on a reasonable motorway journey to get them used to it, then hire it for the real journey. Give them soaked nets to keep them busy, and keep the back doors open, it will get hot with two horses in.. Motorway journeys are not that stressful for them.

I'd try and let them travel together as it will keep them calm and give them a global herbs instant calmer before so they are settled, may help loading easier as well.
Where in Hampshire are you moving to?

I would chat to a reputable transporter!

Moving IS very very stressful and trying to move your own horses as well will just add to it all and the stress will transfer to your horse.

Have a look on www.findhorsetransport.org

And have a chat with a few transporters there. They do this day in day out and maybe able to give you a few hints and help even if you don't use one of them

When transporting yourself ENSURE you look on the highways agency first and see which roads are closed and when. They often close major roads on a sunday or weekends to sort out pot holes and problems.

Good luck! Hampshire is very beautiful! I have lovely friends in Sway

I would say a lorry would be better than a trailer.

Or money gram me and I will ship them to Bristol airport- an email I got regarding a puppy I looked at buying!!

On a serious note, brought a horse from Shropshire and live in hampshire, We hired a lorry and he was comfy and not sweaty etc
