Best yard breed!!

Just wondering what everyone's opinions are on what breed you think is the best as a yard dog? I know you can't generalise dogs like that but you can to a certain extent by their breed traits. Just curious really, I mean I know with training all dogs probably could be, but which breed have you found to settle into yard life easily? I'v got 2 dogs myself but was looking at getting another and really love border terriers, however looking into their traits, they're pretty good at doing a runner and chasing!! Are they really that bad?!!!!
 
I know a few who do that!

Depends on what you want from a yard dog - we have a truly wide variety on ours, so my staffies, lots of JRTs, a JRT cross something small and fluffy, working cocker, retriever, couple of large cross breeds. All the dogs are good yard dogs (some hack out, all are polite around the horses, all stay with their owner). However mine are the ONLY ones who insist on meeting and greeting EVERYONE who comes into the yard - which is actually a nice welcome but also when there are not many of us means that there is not a cat in hells chance of anyone actually coming into the yard without us knowing..Horses for courses.

However, when the YO suggested getting a feral cat in to keep mice down, I did have to put my hand up and say it would not last long with my lot...
 
Thanks for your replies. Lucio, I suppose I'm looking for something that will get on with the horses, help me muck out, sweep the yard and possibly drive the lorry! Lol, no just after something that will be laid back really and go with the flow! I'v got 2 rotties. One's a rescue and has never gelled with the horses, the other one gets so excited and pulls on lead when out and just runs around like a whippet! When they're away from horses they're great dogs, really chilled out and just bumble along and love my 1yo daughter to bits!!
 
JRTs - they always seem happy to bumble around and are good around horses. Mine and my sons love the yard, they keep out of the way of the horses, are good with kids, people and other dogs and mine is good with the chickens too. They like climbing in the hay searching for rats, looking in the woods for squirrels and chasing rabbits. They also steal any carrots lying around.
 
I've got a working cocker and he is fab. Comes to the yard everyday has a run about. Helps me turn horse out, muck out feed etc and loves a good sleep in my hay. lol. He has never run away but you cant leave him in the stable while you ride or he jumps out and sits in the barn waiting for you. He would come out hacking but I have to go down a main road and I dont know how he would be to stay in the side while traffic passes. He does steal the carrots and loves to help everyone with there feeds etc. But he is so freindly and loves cuddles etc that no one minds.
YO has jrt and are always barking and chasing the horses in the fields nearest the yard.
 
We have a huge mix of dogs visit the yard, 3 JRT's, a staffie, 3 labs, 2 huskies, a northan inuit, 4 german pointers, 3 border terriers, 2 springers, a cocker, a beagle, a boxer, and one of those huge dogs out the film Turner and Hooch, can't remember what they are called! All are lovely and good around the yard, although luckily they don't all come up at the same time, would be total chaos!!!

Well mine will help clear OUT the lorry .... of food if you have left it out by accident (sorry!). The only dog that doesn't particularly like the horses is the fluffy JRT cross as "his" pony stepped on him so he no longer "does" fields. all 3 of mine are rescues and so are quite a few of the others but I was obviously lucky as did not have a problem socialising them. I also take my sisters staffie up sometimes and she is the same. Youngest is very good at finding sponges - does that count?!
