I've seen it on a few group pages... It appears to have been posted initially on a group called Equine Lumps Bumps etc and shared quite prolifically from there...

Trigger snaps have caused rips too. On the grand scheme of things horses can try and kill and maim themselves on, this is " minor" in the sense it should heal relatively well.

Last Saturday upon putting my cat out at 5 am I heard the most horrific groaning sound I'd ever heard. Yelled for my husband who was dressed and in the barn in seconds. I couldn't actually face what the noise was telling me. Miraculously he was able to get the ponies head unstuck from a v door she somehow bent and got her head stuck between the concrete wall and bent metal. Had I not put the cat out she would have been dead. I have seen numerous horses get (not mine) legs stuck in metal bars with a well aimed kick pulling and ripping ligaments as well as breaking bones. Anyway after it was determined pony has broken facial bones, pulled many ligaments and has facial paraylisis, I really am not as upset by the snap thing no matter how horrific it looks. As a matter of fact I'm done with the doors with unremovable metal grids. My horses now live behind one chain with offending snaps. Some have trigger snaps which also rip. No one had tried to escape, they are amazingly much happier, and my mind is at ease.

Sometimes with horses it's the lesser of 2 evils. I'd take that any day over finding a horse hanging by head or leg.

ohhhh interesting nose piercing, prefer a stud myself;)
my big girl has a nick out of her nostril did it on a clip on likkits when they first came out, her then owner complained and they payed her vet bill and changed the clips they used on the likkits.
 
It was on my fb too,think it was a horse from my local RC the clip wasn't used for haynets it was one of the clips used for attaching buckets to walls,mares doing alright now think the owner was in shock though!
 
Years and years ago a horse at the riding stable where I learnt to ride managed to catch her eye on a clip like this one, and blinded herself - she was a beautiful grey called Concorde.

Totally agree that with horses, if they can find a way to maim themselves they will:(

I hope that this horse makes a speedy recovery.
 
I know the lady this horse belongs to and she wanted everyone to see it to warn what can happen with these clips. Just to cheer everyone one up I have posted the after picture...
