Bid to save Lennox has failed

what a shame. its a sad day for the bull breeds. :(

In all honesty, I don't think I could have my dog sitting in those horrid kennels.

Betty has a pretty serious face depending on a) your perception of her based on the way she looks and how much media you listen to. b) the angle of the camera, and what she is doing at the time.

If I took a picture of her watching next-doors cat parading in front of the window i reckon she'd look pretty serious- not so much when she thinks she's getting fed etc... you'd never see such a pic on a news article referring to "devil dogs" though would you.

Apart from the total injustice of the whole affair, I find the saddest thing is the fact that the family wont even get to see him to say goodbye. The whole system stinks.

:(

Sure , pits and staffies and bull terriers can look extremely "serious" to an outsider. In fact pits are no different to staffies..and that means absolutely gorgeous.Yes,all of them can be very serious fighters, that was bred in them, but also bred in is the cool headed ability never to bite the handler even when fully engaged in a fight.
Over the years I have had almost full time contact with these breeds, and trust their honesty completely.By golly ,if they intend any harm you get plenty of warning, unlike ,say, a border collie that seems to act on impulse.
Because they are bred not to feel much in the way of pain they tolerate children as other breeds cannot.Quite honestly they are the best dog imaginable. RIP Lennox.

This ^^ I deal with quite a lot of pit bulls. some that have been used for fighting :( :( Very gentle and good with people even when having painful procedures done. Poor Lennox - RIP

I just don't understand why the man (was he the owner?) made a comment about the "dog ripping his head off" to a dog warden who presumably was there to check his temperament and breed status? I'm not sure of I got all the info right but it that's what happened that asking for the dogs death sentence. I can't believe it's gone on for 2 years, that's poor dog in a kennel for that amount of time, do u think a dog could recover from that? Such a sad story xx

Ah, but a dog doesn't need any pitbull in their genetics to be classed as a pitbull type - some staffy x labs occasionally look like that type as well as several other crosses

Yes, have a look at my Barney, daft as a brush but looks mean so I have been told, he's staffy x lab, regularly gets beaten up by our tortoise!

The statement isn't showing up but reading through the "Save Lennox" site there are so many inconsistencies and illogical statements it won't have been any help.
I just read the copy of Lennox's license which they (the site) are trying to use to discredit the council - if anything it works the other way as he is obviously not a bulldog , American or otherwise) so he was wrongly declared on registration.
I also saw an admission from his owner that he was of the type/ looked a bit like a pit bull -gist as I don't have the quote to hand - with this the court had no other choice.
I saw a petition start up to get him out of NI with a home in the UK!!! Frying pan > fire?

It is a shame and TBH I would have focused on the Dog Wardens and /or had him shipped somewhere he would not have been at risk within the first few weeks rather than relying on the courts.

I just hope some good comes of all this and that people become aware that acquiring a banned breed or a lookalike cross breed without reliable paperwork is not a good idea and perhaps their production may cease.

He could have just gone across the border, APBT is not on the list there. Shoulda, woulda, coulda I suppose.

"We would like to thank everyone for the countless messages that we have received in the last 24 hours during what is a very difficult time for our family and for the support we have had from so many since Lennox was seized in 2010. The past two years have been extremely distressing for many reasons and we appreciate that this has been a very emotive case for dog lovers worldwide who have spoken out against the failings of Breed Specific Legislation. We take some comfort in the knowledge that we are not the only ones to be devastated by the recent ruling. We are in talks with our legal team and will make another statement in due course."

Depending on the council area, the licensing, in terms of correct details on forms, can be a bit slapdash. Tightening up now, microchipping compulsory and gone up from five whole pounds to twelve.

Read somewhere the two wardens called, chatted over tea (!) then produced a tape measure, and seized him then and there. No chance to get him over the border ..which I would most certainly have done. Having read more, and watched vids of him it seems ever more disgusting.

There's a pit living in a house across my me an she is the sweetest dog I've ever met. The owner walks her very early in the morning so she doesn't get spotted but she has on occasion wandered over to my house an she has been nothing but kind with my dog an my two kids

This is so sad - I don't agree with the banning of certain breeds but given their illegal status now I think its horrific of people to still breed them, knowing that they will be PTS if discovered. RIP Lennox - at least he is out of those kennels and can be having walkies in the sky now.

He's not dead yet, they won't PTS until they are satisfied every legal avenue has been exhausted. If the family want to go to the Supreme Court in London or Europe, they can.

The last update from the family was they were continuing to seek advice from their legal team. The official save Lennox website is closed for maintenace but the fb save Lennox group is saying the fight continues.

There is also a push to allow him out of the country to go to another home which I think the family have reluctantly agreed to given that he will be a changed dog.
