Hi
I am a newbie to the site
Having read some of the posts I feel I must put in my pennies worth!!
I own a big warmblood and having only had him a year can honestly say I love em to bits!!! The earbashing I get though is much to be desired... I competed in showjumping before dressage and have only been competing in dressage for 9 months with my new BIG BAD WARMBLOOD! He is 7 years old and had nothing on his cards when he came from abroad apart from 3 prelim dressage tests and 7 jumping scores.
When I bought him he did have a WOW factor, but as far as training was concerned he was too flashy, all in front and nothing behind. He is 17.2 and a big boy, me being 5.6 he is a real workout. What urkes me is the fact that SOME people say he should be doing medium/medium advance, but to be honest we are only really just getting him from being soooooo strung out and long to "up" and working from behind... He has wonderful paces but does not offer the hind end easily!! What I am trying to say is that although I have a warmblood, I am an ordinary person, with an ordinary boring job, I have to get up at 5am in the morning and work my butt off just like everyone else, I am skint, tired and need to win the lottery but I keep on trucking. I have had two horses I have had to retire at tender ages of 5/6, one of which I had to put down a year and a half ago. I am winning, at long last and managed to come 5th at the Regionals at Patchetts in the Novice and win the Prelim. It has been a tough struggle emotionally and physically. It has not been handed to me. The young girl who won the Novice had a wonderful horse who was correct and foot perfect. She rode very well. She was not riding a big flashy warmblood, but won. It goes to show that you do not need a warmblood to win, but I love the warmbloods for their temperament and honesty and I love a big horse!! I get a free workout when I ride my horse so no need to go to the gym!! Yes, I did pay more for him than my other horse BUT I still have to ride him, because when you are just a passenger he goes like a donkey!!
Thanks for listening......
