Biker does 104mph past horse

Sends a shiver down my spine.

What a fantastic horse not to react- I know my mare who is good with bikes, would probrably not have been so good with one doing that speed.

IMO, the fines and the ban should have been much more.

Why is the penalty not more?
Why was his licence not taken away?

If horse wasn't a saint & had spooked, rider fell & hurt (or worse) would the penalty have been more severe?

70 day ban yep that should stop him riding his bike like a complete MORON (not).

Well done rider for keeping cool & controlled.

Hmm, is 70 day ban lenient...

Look at recent bans in that county around that speed - 105 on a 70 road earned someone a 7 day ban.

When you look at it like that, you'll see that they've hit Mr Wilkinson quite hard. For a guilty plea the courts are obliged to give 1/3 off sentence, so a ban in excess of 2 months was a pretty reasonable sentence... People kill other people on the road and can escape with only a year ban...

Oh, and you try getting insurance after being disqual.....

Glad he was banned, but imo it shouldn't have been just for speeding, the outcome could have been fatal. I am suprised though, I usually find motorcyclists the most sympathetic to riders.

He only got banned for 70 days? It should've been 10 years. He could have caused a really nasty accident! I'm amazed that horse didn't react having been a biker passing horses it's very common for them to at least look at motorbikes. I'd be livid if that had been me on my horse.

I never know why I bother to read the moronic crap in the comments section of that comic, it only winds me up.

Good horse.

Sorry, I just had to comment as some of those comments on there are made by complete imbeciles

What's with that same old comment cropping up "they don't pay insurance or tax, they shouldn't be on the road". HOW do they know that? Why do they assume that the motorist DOES pay tax and have insurance (many don't). It really irks me the hatred some people seem to hold for horse riders - it's quite worrying. I just hope they have kids who take it up as a hobby!

Rubbish

There was no way that bike was doing 104mph past that horse. Yes, on the approach he is probably going pretty quickly, most bikers would take advantage of a straight piece of road but there is no way that bike was doing 104 just before the video footage stopped.

Poor camera footage for a start and why so suddenly stopped? Camera wasn't focused on bike properly so an accurate reading couldn't have been taken IMO.

And before anyone jumps on me - I am a horse owner / rider for over 25 years and I also have a sports bike which I also drag race so I know what it's like to ride bloody quickly on a bike and that biker wasn't doing those types of speed.

He slows up as he approaches the horse and doesn't do any defensive braking and his riding position is not that of a biker doing in excess of 100mph.

Horse probably didn't react as reported as he wasn't alarmed by the bike because it wasn't doing the speeds the mobile camera operator claims he was. Also, if I were that rider and a bike was approaching me at high speed I would be frantically asking rider to slow down and the rider doesn't do anything - which would indicate that they weren't worried about the bike's speed.

Police have stitched him up.

OFG, So because the rider didn't ask him to slow down he shouldn't have done? What happened to common sense?

It's very lucky the horse didn't perform, I'm shocked by your attitude.

disgusting behaviour by the motorcyclist, and no doubt if he hadn't have been banned, he would be wrapped around an Inncocent person's dead body by now, whether a pedestrian, cyclist or driver - even horse rider. Must have been terrifying for both the rider and the horse.

I truly find motorcyclists are fantastic with me and Shy - they see my Hi Viz, and they understand and respect it, are polite, slow down, and are friendly - FAR more respectful than cyclists.

To be honest the video didn't play very fast on my computer so I couldn't tell how fast he was going and I did wonder how he was going at 104mph yet he seemed to be sat up? Would someone going that fast be sat in the more forward position? I do wonder if he was caught on camera at 104mph near but not actually passing the horse but maybe others can see the video better than me?

Doesn't show at what point he was clocked for speeding, he may well have slowed significantly for the horse after being caught but was still in excess of sixty miles an hour. It wouldn't have fazed my pony either but it that wouldn't have made it okay to him to speed past.

Yes, he's an idiot and should be banned but nice to see the rider wearing hi viz on a public highway so he could see her sooner and adjust his silly speed to something more suitable.

No, I'm not saying that at all. Just pointing out that the rider (and horse) seems very calm considering a motorbike allegedly riding at her and her horse at 104mph. The engine noise from a bike doing those sorts of speed is enough to freak out the steadiest of horses.

Biker does slow down in what little of that footage is shown.

Also, the article is a little bit sensationalist as it reported the incident to be on a country road. Yes, it might well be in the country but its a good sized 2 lane road and the biker was well over to the left of his lane. The way the article is worded it tries to make out the road was very narrow and the bike passed really really close. There was a quite decent gap between horse and biker I thought.

I am not condoning speeding in any form whatsoever where horses are concerned but just trying to point out that from the footage shown there was no way that bike was doing the speeds the police claimed.
