Bill of Sale - Free Horse?

Hi all, I am having to apply for a new passport and will need to send off a bill of sale to confirm ownership of my gelding. The old owner is happy enough to get one signed and sorted, but she actually gave me him for free so there was no exchange of money - does anyone have any idea of a document I could write up that would be eligible as proof?? He wasn't technically "sold" to me so I'm not really sure if a bill of sale would be appropriate.

Just exchange £1 for the receipt to make it all above board, it will also cover you in case she did ever decide that he was not a gift, I have done this with 2 in the past and just write a normal receipt, sold for £1 horses name, age, basic description, details of owner and a signature.
 
When I got a passport for my horse I did not have to supply any proof of ownership. The passport itself is not any proof of ownership. The vets just come and done alll the stuff and the microchipping and that was that. Mine was course only a pet one, might be different with a breed one.

^^ this. I bought my cob for £2 as didn't have a £1 on me!

I gave £20 when a friend took one of mine, it needed it's feet doing so I felt it only fair to pay as I couldn't get them done before they picked him up, as long as everyone is happy with their "gift horses" and the arrangements are irreversible then a few £s either way makes little difference.
Of 9 on my yard at the moment 3 were £1 purchases and they are all lovely useful animals, the pony is going to do dressage in the morning he is a perfect schoolmaster who was lucky he ended up here and I realised he could still have an active ridden life rather than continue as a companion, he has a new lease of life and is thriving on having an adoring child taking care of him.
 
Pay £1 to owner so then you have officially "bought" him :)

One of ours was bought for £1. He then gave us £5 luck penny and a headcollar :p
