Bit banks. Will they actually give me sensible advice?

Another vote for the Verbindend, and another which i am trying at the moment for hacking is this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Horse-Sho...t=UK_Horse_Wear_Equipment&hash=item3cc5ab4b9b and so far a big thumbs up on either the bottom ring or snaffle, same result from both, lift at the front end and no leaning, he is curling a bit in it but i can now push him forwards back out of it without him diving on my hands.

Thanks all. I will give the verbindend thingy a go (will look on ebay first mind) as if I can find something I can use in tests that would be a bonus. Seems a few people have had success so I shall see how we go. I feel so much better that I'm not the only one with a lout of a horse as well! :)

Thanks for the pic, bonus BH in background too :D She's looking so grown up!!!

She is getting quite big now  And she has proper grown up feet. Wish she'd grow a proper tail now though! It's still like a 2yos

I have one if you want to borrow it :) It was Be's, so could well be the right size for BH.

If you wouldn't mind that would be amazing but I don't expect you to let BH anywhere near anything of yours. Being how he is and all.

I think they're about to dissolve anyway poor little beggars. My field has given up and is now a lake

I would third the Verbindend. After much stress (and money!) I think we are settled on this.

Mine is very on the forehand (probably due to my apalling riding and complete lack of schooling - both of which we are working on!), and I used to get this dull ache between my shoulders with his leaning.

The other day out hacking I thought oi come back here as I could feel him leaning, and lo and behold he engaged his back end!!

They do come up small though due to the curved demi anky arms. We are 15.3 and in a 6"

I've just ordered mine :) I've gone for a 5.5 which is normally a bit on the big side so hopefully will fit if they come up small. I ummed and ahhed about getting a 5.25 so glad I didn't now!

Hi sorry to kind of hijack your thread but read with great interest as having similar gitiness issues with my horse! Have tried lots of bits, fixed cheek snaffle, waterford cos he leans, loose ring snaffle which he eventually does soften to but takes a while! Am interested in NS but I need a 6.5 and the Verbindend only goes up to a 6! sorry to be ignorant but would I get similar effect with team up? (this made in bigger size)

Thanks :)

I used a magennis recently (which I hadn't seen used this century never mind this decade, everyone laughed at my old fashioned bit collection) with a major leaner who claimed they didn't know what a half halt was and said it was imperative that I hold their head up. Six weeks later the leaning was a thing of the past and we could go back to our loose ring french link. They're £15 from equestrian clearance which isn't much more than the bit bank charge for a borrow?

My other trick is popping a double bridle in to remind certain horses that (combined with a lot of rider leg) they do have hocks and it would be a hell of a lot easier if they used them.

I've never used a verbindend thingy so I have nothing useful to add there....

I find the bit bank very helpful when I ring them to tell them what I want but I have never used them from a blank piece of paper sort of starting point.

Have also heard of a magennis used to good effect on a big strong opinionated i/d horse, who soon returned to a milder bit, when his manners improved.

I would ring and speak to Heather Hyde at NS. She is so helpful and will tell you whether the team up will be suitable.

She will also ask lots and lots of questions about how he goes, what you have tried etc.
