Honestly I see so many people struggling on with the "wrong" horse for them, when buying the right horse makes for a happy and fulfilled partnership (and a lot more fun).

Definitely agree with this. Buy a warmblood because the think they are going to beat everyone else, then cant ride it because its too sharp!

I have to say, first of all, thanks to everyone for your support.I keep hearing from people how she should be doing this or that and my new instructor who says she needs to be fitter etc. Thinking about it though, so long as she is healthy and happy. She is. She is fit enough to do what I want hr to do, which is not a hugh amount to be honest, does the rest matter? I think of the late queen who was a very good horsewoman all her long life. When she got into her old age, and she rode almost until the bitter end, she said of her last ride, a little cob called Emma, of whom she was very fond. She is like me.Close to the ground and only wants to walk.If its good enough for Queen Elizabeth the second its good enough for me.I would like to trot a bit as well.Canter can definately wait.

You have a superstar. You don't need a different more forward version or a fitter version. Or any other sort of version. You have the version you need and love. Possibly you need a new more appreciative instructor. You've sorted the new yard. QE2 loved her Emma and knew her to be a superstar also. As does her groom Terry Pendry. That is why Emma attended the funeral. She was very special to the Queen.

Just a bit of one. When I bought my little cob I knew she was a laid back, safe small cob.I didn't think I was buying a wired to the eyeballs warm blood.Safe little cob is what I wanted and what I got.I am elederly and with limited nerve. I am sick of people saying to me "Oh she is so lazy isn't she?" Mind your own business especially as she goes better for me.
All I can say is Lucky You! I’m envious! 😊

There were times I had people tell me that my eldest is too lazy/laid back.

Ignoring the fact that much of his "laziness" comes from training and mutual trust, sure, don't be shy to mock, while I can have fun doing groundwork, driving, doing farm chores, popping a course, hacking solo, even participating in fun movie projects with my boring ol' horse. 😀 Sure, we've also had our periods of worry, much of those caused by my personal stress, but who hasn't?

Count yourself lucky, OP - your cob sounds just fab! :)

...oh and ditch the instructor !

She is teaching you to be insecure, dissatisfied & to try to be someone else? That is not something to pay for, you can get that for free any day of the week.
Find someone who will take your money to make you into a better version of yourself and lead you towards goals you have chosen.

This is still the old yard, isn’t it, not the new one that you are moving to and where your other horse is on retirement livery?
There may be.Its changed though I think. My shoulder has been very painful and the weather very bad so I haven't felt like moving right now but will hopefully soon.Need to get the cojones.

I just don’t get the need to undermine happy and content partnerships and project your own thoughts on achievement on others. The horsey world is terrible for it. You bought your horse for you and she sounds perfect for what you want to and need. She also just sounds like a lovely horse. If others want to ride hotter, sportier, sharper horse - that’s their choice, they just need to shut up and go and ride them!

As long as your horse is fit enough then agree. If instructor is concerned about her weight / muscle tone then possibly consider this.

You have exactly what you want, people can be so mean, ignore and enjoy many happy times with your horse x, when people say things not nice to me I answer with "I wouldn't swop him for a million pounds, he's wonderful" it usually shuts them up.
