Bit premature

That is pure bred into them for generations coming to the fore! (And no doubt experienced training and handling!). Do you teach them left and right before they meet sheep? And do you have a stooge group of steady ewes?

No, they are taught their hands (left/right) on sheep but they are taught lie down and that'll do away from sheep. Yes, we have training sheep specifically for training young dogs.

As matter of interest, why did you mate them twice on the same day ? Surely it would only affect the same ovulation so bit of a pointless exercise, even though I am sure he enjoyed it. :)

I think it was simply a case of why not. The bitch had travelled a long way and so they wanted to make the most of the time they had together ;) lol

Sweep looks an excellent little prospect. Complete opposite of my idiot show bred collie who just wants to run straight at moving objects, as the sheepdog trainer told me, loads of drive but no logic at all. He did meet his first sheep the other day (behind a dog proof fence) and was firm friends with a big lamb but when a big old tup eyeballed him he got quite reactive so took him away. We’ve finally found a good training place now though and he’s really enjoying some search training so hoping it’s just been bad handling on my part that has set him back so far and it’s onwards and upwards now.

I love your GSD so much, the prospect of GSD puppy pictures is very exciting.

Glad to hear you have found a good training place and I am sure you will come on leaps and bounds now. Be interested to hear how you do.

If only it was that simple, there is a collie here, 11 months old from working lines through and through and its like he does not even see sheep or other stock. He is perfect for a pet home and will be rehomed.

Thanks. We didn’t get on too well with the sheepdog trainer so was glad to find this other place.

At 11 months you would like to see instinct coming through, but some dogs are late starters and it may come through yet.

The test tube pup is doing grand. His breeder and owner couldn't be happier with him. Very laidback and bombproof, yet drivey when in work.

Well wow! Impressive boy. Is he still bigger than average or has he evened out? A friend bred a litter of pit bulls in Oz, the bitch had the biggest belly you have ever seen and had to have a c section, but the lone pup that was in there ended up quite a normal size, althoug he looked like a baby elephant at birth.

He is average size for a male shepherd, so despite being an only pup he has evened out.
