How long does season last .The bitch in question comes down our yard and my 8 month old dog is going nuts to coin a phrase.Fortunately she wont have any of it and sends him packing but I want him to get back to normal asap.Only ever had dogs so dont know much about females:rolleyes:

Most bitches bleed for 3 weeks but this can differ dependant on breed of course, then they are still susceptible to being 'caught' for another week.
At 8 months old your boy is very young to be interested which may be why the bitch isn't showing any signs of wanting him.

Hi, they are in season for around 3 weeks, depends a bit on the bitch. If the owner has to bring the bitch down to the yard whilst she is in season she could try and disquise the smell a bit maybe (watered down zoflora around the bum helps), having said that though, I think she'd be doing you all a favour if she could leave her at home for a while, if only so she can get on with what she needs to do without worrying about the bitch. The owner will still smell of the bitch though so your boy will probably still get excited!

I've known an 8 month old puppy dog very capable of doing the deed! The bitch probably isn't ready to be mated which is why she's telling him off. Whilst they are in season there are only a few days that they will be ready to be mated, this will differ from bitch to bitch.

I've posted before about an 8 month old GSD who mated 2 bitches in the same day and both had decent sized litters, so I wouldn't be too relaxed with your lad. I agree with Tillypup it would be sensible if the owner left the bitch at home for a bit, its not just your lad to worry about, bitches are quite likely to p**s off to look for a suitor when at the height of season.

Thanks everyone .Owner of dog is bloke who finds it quite amusing.:oMy dog semi listens when told to leave and has tried to hump him when overly excited:D:p.At the end of the day she will have the litter if he insists on bringing her down although we watch them all the time .2 more weeks of this will drive me insane will try and go to yard at different times ,we normally walk them together as they get on well .

Agree with KatieLou, would you really want your dog to produce a little that will end up with god knows who and probably end up in rescues? because anyone purposely letting an 8 month old bitch get caught by any old dog is surely a bit of an ignorant ******? (this bloke certainly sounds it) I doubt he will give a toss where they end up.

Which is why livery yards are no place for a dog.

Speak to the YO and tell the muppet to take his dog home.
