After a lovely morning at dressage with my daughter coming 3rd in her class out of 9 , at only her 3rd show we had planned to call at the local forest on the way home for a quick hack ,
Pony is so good in everyway normally but having got her off the trailer and putting her bridle on she somehow manged to bolt , my worse nightmare losing her in unfamiliar territory , she just kept going with me in hot pursuit and a terrified daughter , i ran till i could run no more , she was out of sight by this time and could of gone down any forest track and onto the road, a very kind family gave me a lift down the track and fortunalty we found her wondering alongside the river , caught her with the family's dog lead [ bridle found later in bits ] .
Funny the look she gave me as if to say ' oh there you are you look out of breath ' just so thankful she was ok , worried now about future visit's , do i tack up on the trailer ? , what about a combination bridle so i can just clip the bit on ? .

I always put the bridle on before unloading in new places or if I dont know the horse, it means you have control and something like that will not happen.
Glad it was all ok in the end, must of been really frightening.

omg, worst nightmare right enough! They know just how to make you feel like a right fud sometimes!!

I personally have never tacked up then put in the trailer but I know alot of people turn up to PC events all takced up and ready to go from the trailer.

was very scarey , worst thing was had encouraged non-horsey OH to come along , must think pony is a nutter although she really isn't

Nightmare!! tack up in trailer..or get a headcollar that opens at noseband and throat then you can just slip it off, glad your all unscathed, well apart from the bridle  :)
