Just after some bitting advice on a horse ive ridden a few times, it seems to be very hard in the mouth in that it will fight for its head to stick up a bit and works against you. It can be a bit lazy too.

When you stand it still and try to work it round it tries to snatch the reins from you and feels hard yet sesitive in teh mouth - if that can be!

It also has a tendancy to rear and has done a couple of times with owner only little half hearted ones though.

Any tips on bitting it!

It is in a loose ring, copper lozenge snaffle. Has been tried in a thiner bit and it is worse, but wasnt to keen on a myler either a few months ago.

It jumps in a lozenge happy mouth drop ring snaffle

My Opinion is bridging rein for a while !

That wont stop it being sensitive in the mouth though and it only slightly snatches at the rein you dont lose your reins or anything and it is doing that to avoic coming round

As in the black rubber bits? Are they dressage legal though?

Yep totally legal. Can work wonders on some horses. Sometimes steering gets lost a little but it's worth it if you can encourage acceptance.

And this can be good for horses who are hard in the mouth? Will suggest to owner to get one at the weekend and get teeth done nxt week!

Yes indeed, sometimes can just break the cycle.
Let me know if it works....

Another thing the horse does is when it decides to wake up and bolt - it throws its head up and you have no contact and nothing to woah it with, it just goes! So hopefully something it is softer in it will listen! It apparently doesnt do this ofter though and only for a few mtrs!

I would also go with bendy rubber loose ring snaffle for horse fussy/strong/worried in mouth as it sounds as if yours doesn't want to take a contact consistently and it should help give them confidence.

The straight bar mullen mouth may also be a possibility. What bit does the horse have now? Maybe it doesn't like jointed bits (we have one like that). However he may tolerate the JP jointed bits which work slightly differently.

Mine can go a bit wooden but sensitive in that he will drop behind the contact or fight a strong contact. I have him in either a nathe straight bar loose ring, or a JP full cheek when he has one of his "stages" and find he goes well in both. The Nathe has been very effective and I find he is alot softer and more consistant in it.

It's probably habit more than anything else, and been poorly schooled. In between events with William, who gets a sore mouth from anything (and oneof those little rubber bits was one of the worst culprits for rubbing the sides of his mouth even with bit rings), he wears a "double bridle" consisting of his dressage bit - a Sprenger KK Ultra, quite a thin one - and a german hackamore. With this I can choose what pressure to exert. It looks viscious, but it works for him.
