I have been having a problem with my horse recently with schooling. He works through his back lovely and really track ups, goes of my legs beautifully, its the stopping thats the problem.

When i ask him him stop from my seat he will but it takes a few seconds so i give him a check with the bit and then a few seconds after this he will stop. Its just not the sharpness that i would like him to have.

Im having a bit of a dilema as to what to use because anything too strong he doesnt like, and obviously i dont want anything that is too light.

He is currently in a french link loose ring. I have tried happy mouths...no good, having a hanging cheek doesnt make any difference, i have bought a myler before and he really didnt like that either!

any ideas? I need something with a thin mouthpiece because he has a small mouth and a huge tounge

If it's just the sharpness, everything else is fine I'd stick with your bit tbh.
How is he if you work on transitions (within the pace, missing out paces ie trot-halt etc) ?
If you do them quite often/quickly he should come back to you much easier.

Its fine...nothing wrong with it as such its just all so blah!
Its like he just goes into a world of his own (even when doing a transition at pretty much every marker) then goes "oh what oh ah oh right i get it" then he will do the transition.
I need something that might just make him sit up and listen even if it is just for a few sessions and then i will go back to the snaffle

I am not asking for a quick fix, i know it all comes with time and schooling.

Good was just making it clear.

I dont have an instructor at the moment...im trying to find a good one but most people i know use a certain one and think she is the bees knees where as i dont think her much good...My YO is an instructor but i dont really want lessons from her either..and not sure if she wants other instructors coming onto the yard either.

Its a bit tricky really but id rather no instruction than bad instruction

I would suggest you contact Hilary Vernon her email Informedbitting@aol.com . Hilary came out to bit my ex racer who was just all over the place. He's so much better now. Although I still have a long way to go with his reschooling I do have brakes.

Neue Schule do a smaller mouth peice, some start from 12mm and some from 14mm but it's not a French Link, the team up, verbindend and the NS starter, there the lozenge type but very similar to a FL (I've just swapped my mare onto one of these) and if you horse suffer from a dry mouth, again NS bits are very good, could be worth giving one of those a try. :)
