Chico was up to something really bizarre today.

When i got to the yard after work he was already in his stable with a cotton sheet on, not usual.

Apparently he was turned out at 10am his usual boisterous self but then a bit later was witnessed behaving rather odd.

He was galloping up to the gate across the field, stopping at the gate rearing vertical then throwing himself down on the ground and lying there for a minute then getting up and doing it all over again, about 5 times.

Was told he wasnt going down like a normal roll but literally diving onto the floor.

They bought him in around 1:30pm and said he slept quietly stood with his bum to the stable door and no-one heard a peep out of him.

By the time i got there at 4:30pm he was back to his normal jolly self, very pleased to see me and eager for his dinner.

My vet arrived at the yard for another horse so i mentioned it but she wasnt concerned.

Anyone else experienced this?

(haagen dazs and chocolate fudge cake to all who read to the end!!)

What was the weather with you like today? How bad were the horse flies?

I've seen horses throw themselves on the floor because of flies.

I was going to suggest flies too - they are brutal round my yard this evening and we've been grey and drizzly too - think they wait for the dry spell then descend en masse. Hope all ok with your boy!x

I would keep an eye. My mare sometimes does that out of no where, not over and over though. I asked the vet and I was told to keep an eye on her behaviour as it could be neurological and wasn't normal

If I was you I would keep an eye on how often this is happening

this is the first time it has happened but we are definitely going to keep an eye on him.

Strangely enough I witnessed my WB rolling - nothing unusual there except he got up and down 6 or more times. That was odd and then if only my phone SD card wasn't full he leapt into the air like a rodeo horse about 4 times in succession clearing the ground by a few feet with all 4 feet. Very strange. I put it down to flies and the muggy odd weather :)
