Driving home today along a really busy road with cars/lorries travelling about 50 MPH, there is a woman on a wild chesnut dancing along the pavement.
She looked to be having problems with it so I followed the lorry in front and slowed right down to a crawl.
The lorry driver was really thoughtful and waited until there was nothing coming on the other side so he could swing out and give her more space, and I crept past behind.
I was shocked to see she didn't acknowledge either of us even by a nod of the head in thanks, so I stopped the car further up and said it was really difficult to expect drivers to slow down for horses if their riders didn't so much as nod a thanks at them..
I got a mouthful of abuse, "Madam I am out of your road on the pavement, I did thank the lorry (well neither of us saw it) and I didn't see you..!"
With this she waved her long schooling whip around the horse's backside making it dance even more furiously and kept shouting abuse at me.. Saying basically why should anyone say thank you..
I just said "Never mind then" and drove off, but really I wanted to slap her...(or say nastily, "If you learned how to ride that bloody horse then perhaps you wouldn't be in so much danger on the roads.." But I didn't..
So if you know anyone on a fiery looking chesnut, a long greasy looking black haired middle aged woman who shouldn't really have been out until she learns a little more control of her horse and her mouth, riding near LIVERTON in Devon, tell her she lets the rest of us down..
I'm sure that lorry driver was saddened to take so much care and get so little response. I agree she couldn't take her hands off, but a nod and smile would be enough. neither did she look scared of the horse, just an idiot to be honest...
