There going off all over the place tonight, just been down to the stables to check on my guys, they don't seem to bothered but they seem a bit uneasy. The main this I worry about is the stables catching fire, I always try to leave them out until after bonfire night but this year it is just to cold, and it's P-ing down now. It pi$$es me off that we have to go through this weekend of worry every year just so people can watch colored lights in the sky! The worst this is that there most likey will be some kind of incident some where in the country involving a horse and a firework, sad and very annoying! Plus as Nov 5th is mid-week this year it looks like we're in for this nonsence again next weekend too!!!

Rant over!

My friend compared fireworks to setting fire to £20 notes. And I agree with him. If you like standing out in the freezing cold, craning your neck while watching mini explosion fine but why does every other poor b*gger need to see them and hear them too?
I'm hoping my big baby will be alright with them. Gyp is fine so hopefully he will follow his lead.

Yeah, at the risk of sounding like a killjoy, I can't stand 'em. We lost my little doggy 10 years ago when she got out of the garden somehow in a panic and was hit by a car. They always remind me of losing her

I agree as well. As much as I love Fireworks I can't believe people will spend so much on them. I know someone local to me who would spend £50+ on ONE SINGLE firework and they would buy 2 or 3 of them!

I wish it would snow that would stop them!

I hate fireworks, lucky my boy thinks they are there for his entertainment, and the babies follow his lead but mums horse does get stressed.

somebody was using a field owned by my local stables tonight..
they had £1500 of fireworks, to last a whole 5 mins
what a waste of money!

xx

well I think bonfire night is just about the best night of the year!..Its great. We have loads of people round, every body joins in, everybody chips in with fireworks food and of course free flowing beer....

where I do have a problem is with kids on street corners buying fireworks from their local shops and setting them off for a couple of weeks leading up to bonfire night and at all times of the day and night.

I do agree people should be responsible too......and I think bonfire night should only be allowed on 5th november...no exceptions....and stiff fines for shopkeepers selling them to anybody under age...and I think under age should be to at least be 21 or over.

and as for money..isn't it up to the individual how they spend their own hard earned cash?....fireworks, cigarettes, beer...horses.whatever floats your boat!¬

our neighbour set them off last night but at least came to tell me this year. It was like a war zone but did only last 5 minutes max. When he came round he said it would be no longer than 20 minutes so I was very very pleased. I think it's amazing we can't get on a plane with a bottle of water over 100mls and yet we can happily buy explosives???

I hate this period every year, I dread it. My horses just about 'cope' but it worries them for hours each time. I wish it were confined to a day and only organised displays. It's not just the horses it's all animals (with the exception of my chickens that don't display and visible signs of distress

Hi all,

Totally agree what a daft waste of money they are, and what an upset to our animals.

Hi Flicker,

I can only imagine how i'd feel if one of our dogs panicked and got run over because of fireworks. 10 years on, and it's still with you. I understand x

We had neighbours tonight, setting off loud bangy things about 10pm, over our house. No warning. Dogs were in, thankfully, horses up field.

I do some voluntary work at an animal rescue centre when i can, and they are full at the moment, and the manager commented the other day that she was dreading the influx that the firework season creates, as they just don't have room.

I really hope that in these days of Health and Safety causing major problems to equestrian pursuits, they may realise they have a much bigger future in looking at the banning of fireworks. I, for one, intend to write to them (and MP) on this issue, and hope others may join me.

Let's think of Flicker's much-loved dog, and let's try and stop such a tragedy happening again.

Best wishes, BS x
