Black And Tan (purebred) Labradors *with pics*

Fascinating, just wondering, are mis-marked (throwbacks, whatever) pups permitted to be registered if the breed standard states solid colours only? Presumably, if it was the 'odd one out' in a normal coloured litter then registration couldn't be refused. What would the British Kennel Club say about odd coloured labs I wonder? The Jockey Club has had to accept coloured thoroughbreds.

Over here puppies marked like any of those would go for a substantial amount more, and people would pay it. The litter my sable bitch came from also had solid blacks and he was charging $100 more for them!

Technically you could show them (assuming they are KC reg) as there is nothing that disqualifies any dog from being shown, but as someone said, the correct colours for a lab are stipulated in the breed standard and the judge would not place labs so heavily mismarked.

There must be something else in there, even if its a few generations back, they are certainly not "pure" labs. Pretty dogs, but the rescues are full of dogs that look like that so hopefully people arent breeding specifically for these colours.

There was a class at a recent GSD show for 'non-standard colours/coat types' - so blues, whites, livers, longcoats, not sure I agree with it, lots of fun for the owners but I'd hate to think it would encourage people to breed for a colour considered a fault, would be like breeding for soft ears or a hooked tail IMO.

No good dog is a bad colour but the gene pools are so small and the breed fraternity has already got it's hands full with other issues, I do not feel it is helpful to the breed as a whole, looking at the big picture.
There are also stories that *some* breeders of non standard colours are breeding dogs with high hip scores and lines to epilepsy carriers - simply because they are the 'right' colours.
There's the issue, sadly.
