So Sister and I headed down to Aston-le-Walls yesterday to catch up with Bob the event horse and the gang! It was his first outing at Advanced to incredibly exciting/terrifying in equal measures!
The weather on the way down was absolutely awful, rain so bad my main worry was that they might cancel! But by the morning the sun had come out.
Arrived at ALW and just managed to get the car into the owners park. Loads of puddles and soft and skiddy on the surface.

But Bob warmed up really well. He was a real handful at his last event and didn't settle in the dressage at all. Plus the advanced test is a big ask, flying changes are still a work in progress! But he really pulled it out of the bag and went so well!

Onto the showjumping, unfortunately on grass. The warm up was terrible, with the ring only slightly better. Complete lottery but he jumped really well to have 4 down.

Sorry it's sideways!
Then cross country he cruised round! Made it look really easy. Caused plenty of problems so just absolutely thrilled to see him make it look so easy!

Fabulous! Well done, especially with the ground conditions.

I remember being there a few years ago for a ODE. The ground was atrocious. Even warming up for dressage was hazardous on the grass/mud, and the grass arenas were just plain slippy.

Daughter withdrew after her test as we didn't like the look of the ground to do anything more.
I do remember the tractor had a full time job towing people out as everybody was getting stuck.
