I have taken a keen interest in the bloodstock/lines, thoroughbred pedigrees ect sort of field and seeing if anyone has any pointers on where I could start learning and looking at this sort of stuff online. It's a whole minefield out there and a bit of a daunting one. No idea if this is in anyone's kind of alley!?

I tried to do (or well get into) dosage index, profiling and other technical number stuff but it's a bit too much for my peanut brain🤦‍♀️so I'll put that on a halt for now..

Been attempting to breakdown pedigrees by making profiles for horses at the tattersalls but I just don't know where go after that. Never draw to a conclusion or built a keen eye for conformation either. It's bit of a overwhelming thing to dive head first 😂😂😂 feel stupid for posting this but I am stuck 🙈 Thank you

Arab breeding is quite interesting you can get pictures and info years back and most Arab's are related somewhere even if it's way back.

I did print off some pictures of Arabi's ancestors years ago as far back as I could I have a whole folder of them.
I'll definitely have to look at that as well! Didn't realise you could get photos, I'll have to have a little look around

On thoroughbred pedigree query, if you click on Reports and select Photos, you can see photos of all the horses in the pedigree. Go back far enough and it's oil paintings not photos
Wow there is too, what a gem of a website

There's a few different breeds thrown in the NF going back many many years (centuries).

From the 1930 only NF stallions were allowed out on the forest.

You need context - I had a book called greatest racehorses and this went back to the 4 original TBs. Darley Arabian etc and had their pedigrees on each page along with stories about them and what they won and produced. Then you will start understanding bloodlines, families and strong lines.
If you want to start understanding warmblood breeding then Christopher Hector though a complete douche, writes knowledgeably about breeding in The Horse. https://www.horsemagazine.com/thm/

I personally use horse telex a lot for sport horses

Have fun. I spend hours looking at NF pedigrees. Some to go back to TB.
Yes similar - can trace my Connemara's lines back to TB and Welsh ponies. For example:

Cannonball born 1904 - registered Connemara but Welsh both sides.

Carna Dolly (a mare who appears more than once in my pony's lines), born 1936 - registered Connemara, but half tb, and on the non-tb side comes from Cannonball, who as above is distinctly Welsh

Adventure - similar to above, tb one side, Welsh knocking around on the other

The Welsh Cob Prince Llewellyn seems to be ultimately where most of the Welsh blood across the pedigree comes from

Long before the internet or indeed personal computers my sister got hooked on tracing her mare's pedigree. Her mare was by a Hunters Improvement Society stallion called Luchador, he was sold to Italy the following year, and out of a mare by Warwick. Warwick was by Hyperion. She had great fun and managed to trace her mare's sire line back to the original 4. Now of course she could follow dam lines as well. Totally fascinating. Hyperion apparently liked to stop and look at the view and refuse to move till he had seen all he wanted. Her mare was the same. Seeing how temperament passes down the lines is really interesting.

I love how far you can go back. I traced. 7/8ths TB‘s lines back right to thr foundation stallions pre internet through reference books. Elf’s horse she links has Olympia/Helioposis and mine had that too. Had an amazing book which had bios of various horses going back years which was fascinating including one of that horse’s relatives died in a an uprising in Europe as wouldn’t leave stable. What amazed me was pre-internet definitely easier finding out about his relations than mine.

Context, that's the word. Thank you! Will definitely read about that

I treated myself for a special birthday treat. I spent the money given to me by my parents on a full set of NF stud books. They were being advertised on our local website. I just HAD to have them. I love books anyway but these have pride of place in a bookcase!!!
