I think she has figured out that she is being sold - some lovely people came to look at her last night. I rode her first I thought she felt a tiny bit stiff but I put is down to me being nervous (hate riding for people).

She looked alrigh with the girl and they got on really well. Then the mum asked
"has she always had that splint on her front leg?". Now I hadn't noticed it before but I'm not very observant so I just said "oh, I guess she must have"

Anyway, took her out of the box today and she is definitely unlevel in front. Not lame but not right either. The splint is warm and slightly sore to the touch. It is obviously a new thing. (at least I know I am not going crazy)

She's 12 and the splint is on the outside of her cannon bone. This seems unusual to me, I thought they generally appeared on the inside and on younger horses... any thoughts on this? And any ideas on how to help it form as quick as possible? Would devils' claw help?

So frustrating as she is not really lame but she is not sound enough to sell - she'll be fine in a week I should think but that is likely to be just long enough to put these people off and for the advert to run out. GRRRRRRRR it is maddening.

lol, my lad threw a splint last year aged around 10/11 just to show me he could...they are supposed to do it at 6/7yrs max.
When anyone rings just say she has picked up a splint/small injury and could you have their number and you'll ring back. IT's very frustrating, we put an add in once and the pony picked up an abcess that ran for 6 weeks..

def agree with you about the splints usually being on the inside and on younger horses! could she have had a knock on something and its swollen up or are you certain its a split? i thought they were caused by hard/road work in youngsters with the bones still being soft (maybe im wrong), do you do alot of jumping with her or have you lately? i had a an older mare who had splits on both legs but they were hardly noticable until she'd been jumping then they used to swell a little and go softer!

Splints usually occur on the inside of the leg because it's the side that has most concussion, but they can get them on the outside if they knock the splint bone against something. If it's still warm and sore then I would say she's only just done it.

Don't laugh but one of my horses had a splint and I was told to cut a lemon in half and attach the wet side to the splint - I did it with vet wrap, and leave on for as long as possible. No kidding, but it worked. In two weeks, the splint had disappeared. Apparently it works on both old and new ones!! LOL

thanks everyone, I might just try the lemon thing if I can smuggle it past the other liveries LOL

So frustrating, I'm fairly certain it is a split but I don't know how it could have occured as she is currently stabled 24/7 and usually worked in the school every night so not much opportunity to knock it or get concussion injuries.

Oh well, I left her looking very smug earlier tucking into her tea after a mere 5 mins under saddle
