Honestly I'm not laughing........

I daren't with a 8 month old lurcher puppy at home who likes to eat cushions and sofa's I better not laugh cos Karma will come get me and ruin my house too!!!!!

To be fair to him, he is a 10 month old Husky X GSD...
BUT, he has a minimum of 3 hours a day exersise, AND we got him a friend to play with in the form of a rescue doggy on Sunday... so really, he doesnt have THAT many excuses!

To be fair to him, as a husky cross 3 hours of exercise is not a lot (same as a collie). They are working dogs bred to go for hours and hours in hard work.

I've been in the same situation as you except mine (lurcher) used to steal electrical appliances (kettles, toasters, george formans), open the back door and bury them in the garden.

He got about 3 hours of off lead runs a day, in a variety of places. He did obedience and agility for 2 hours twice a week, I could not have possibly have done more for him.

So I decided to look at his diet - a lot of people had recommended Bakers as it keeps their poos nice and solid. But when I actually looked at it a bit more I was feeding the doggy equivalent of maccy D's followed by blue smarties! I have now switched him onto a low protein working dog feed and he is a different dog - completely calm and not at all destructive now :) The food I feed is Kildrummie - it's got meaty crunchy chunks like normal biscuits but also has charcoal bits for farts, there are crushed corn and peas in it and the best bit is it has dried chicken pieces - the dogs think they are getting a right treat ;). And the best thing about it is it is only £12 for a 20kg bag!

The other option of course could be separation anxiety - do your neigbours say he is noisy when you leave?

Edit - oh Cribex works with dogs too!

Sorry but this made me LOL...lurchers you gotta love the theiving little spivs! :D :D A lurcher could never do anything so normal as chew up your favourite slippers through boredom, a bored lurcher stealing electrical appliances just sums them up brilliantly!
Sorry I know it probably wasnt very funny at the time :p :D

Edited to add. My current lurcher (not hyper or bored or anything else) if left for an hour or two more than normal, always goes round my kitchen and opens every cupboard and the oven and grill and all the draws....never takes anything or moves anything...just likes to have a nose! :p :D

Yeah and I now have 4 of the things! The best one was when I'd bought a dress for my friend's wedding and hung it up on the lounge door. When I got up in the morning the damn dog had brought a dead squirrel in and buried it in the dress  The wedding was at half 10 and I had to go straight there from shopping for a new dress!

Yeh I realise 3 hours a day isnt much to him, I wasnt cross :)
He too loves the electrical appliances, Ive been through 5 kettles (we now lock it away where he cant get to it) 3 washing machines (a VERY expensive habbit of his) and last week he got the sky plus box and chewed the lead and all the buttons off! (its a good job we leave all plugs switched OFF at the walls!) It only seems to be when he is left slightly longer than normal, and the neighbours say he whines for a little bit when I leave but then they dont hear from him all day...Usually because he's busy eating kettles!

You cant walk around our garden either. Well Unless you want to fall down a 'Tyson hole' and break your leg.

Love him :D
