Bodey- what’s this mark?

I didn’t know whether to put this in here or veterinary but thought more people would see it in here. Bodey came in this morning with a funny, wrinkly, mark on his neck. It seems a bit sore but there are no obvious bite marks, cuts or blood.

Does anyone know what it could be? Any idea of anything I can put on it?

Thanks!

Well it’s highly possible, but why it would stay wrinkly like that I’m not sure, never seen it before. It hasn’t gone down in a few hours either.

sort of looks like a burn, whack some aloe vera on it whatever it is I'm sure it will be fine!

Sunburn? It does look quite pink.

Well he has never had anything like that before and it came up over night, so I don’t think it’s sun burn. Plus wouldn’t it be more likely to be on his back?

My mare (bay) came in with something similar the other day (in the same place). I just left it and it went away in a day or so

. No idea what it was, but she didn't seem troubled by it. I assumed she had just been scratching on something.

could be a friction burn from something he's rolled over or I guess its possible he could do it on the electric fencing, my boy has run through fencing rope and gained similar burns but not sure how bodey could get one on his neck with the fencing still intact!

Oh that’s good to know, thank you. Hope Bodey is the same.

Can't see the pics as at work but from what you say it might be a reaction to sunlight or photosensitivity, something happened to my friend's horse, he was out as usual and came in with wrinlkled and slightly thickened skin on a drak patch of his neck - he was coloured but weirdly it was on a dark patch.

It worsened and became more thickened and scabby - they got the vet who prescribed a special wash and cream and advised them to buy a uv rug.

He wore it for a bit and then was fine.

Thanks amycov and temsik, I haven’t got any aloe here at work (which is where I keep Bodey) but have at home so will go and get it later.

Thanks Worried1, I will keep an eye on it and if it looks the same or worse tomorrow I will call the vet and see what they suggest. I do have a fly rug for him, maybe I should just keep that on at night as well then? It is bit of a odd one! Hope it doesn’t affect our dressage tomorrow, poor boy!

Well I have put some Aloe cream on it, so hoping that might help. Bodey didn’t seem to mind to much so it can’t overly hurt. Oh and I did some carrot stretches and he did seem to be moving his neck alright. It looks like he has been in the bath too long and gone wrinkly.

Is it hot and is it oozing a serum like substance.....

If so, it will get dry and flakey and the skin will slough off on the affected area..... but not the hair!!!

Merlin has had a bite/burn/rainscaldy patch every year for the last 4 years!!! Always in June just before our summer show.... although so far this year its not happened!!!

I think its a fly bite, the vet says rainscald.... but why rainscald when its not been raining and no rugs one etc?? Also its dry and huge flakes of thick skin come off, not pussy and scabby and coming off in lumps, hair and all!!
