Booster costs

Out of interest and sort of following on from from recent threads on vets fees etc I just wondered what people are paying for boosters. Ive just taken one of mine. Full booster consultation with basic check of eyes, ears heart and lungs. £62

Our last check-up included a booster vaccination, worming prescription and a check of a lump our dog had on his chest and that cost a total of £72. I believe the booster injection was £40ish?

I pay £13 a month, which covers yearly jab, kennel cough, flea and worm treatment. I find it easier that way, and with being part of the payment plan I got 10% off of having her neutered, and there is a discount for other routine procedures too. I think it’s quite common for vets to do payments plans. It works for me anyway!

Paid £69 in February for booster, general health check, and 2 worming tablets. Tablets I think are about £8.75 each so happy with that

Both of mine are on the Vets4Pets vaccs for life thingy - £99 each (it's a bit more now) and one is on their 4th booster, the other their 3rd. Turned out to be an absolute bargain..

I've got to take one, My daughters for his boosters next week. I can't remember what I last paid but do remember being a bit stunned at the price. I had more than boosters though so not sure what was what.
I'm kind of dreading this bill as it will be boosters for the dog and cat and an anal gland clean. I assume this means a consult for 3

The last one was £100 for two (after the discount for taking two in at once). With 3 dogs and a cat, the monthly thing would be ridiculously costly for me, and also I don't like the idea that they would be getting potentially unnecessary treatments which I prefer to manage myself. I've actually just changed to a new, very close to me practice and I've another two to take in soon, so it will be interesting to see the price variation, but I'm prepared to pay more for the convenience.

At the vets with the greyhound this weekend and putting him on the blood donor register with them was brought up. One of the benefits is free boosters and the dog gets a goody bag each time it donates blood.

There is a pet shop local to me that has vet days. Think its once a month or so.

Boosters are £33. Or they do vaccine for life for £89.

I’m taking all 5 in next week for boosters and bravecto. I’m wincing already.
I assume if I get a script for the bravecto I need to get one for each dog. But they do all weigh in the same ball park so if a script gives me 2 pills I can get 3 rather than 5, as I don’t do them every 3 months.
If that makes sense!

Sadly, not one round here does. It's a big gripe of mine that there are no routine costs advertised on websites, nor in reception for small pets.

Likewise, the pet club health plans (taken from 4 differently owned outfits) are all set at £19.50 or £19.99pcm.

I worked out the costs of jabs, flea, tick and worm treatment, nail trim if needed, dental check and also spey (20% off neutering), then took a plan out for the puppy in December as I reckoned I'd be saving about £60 in the 1st year. Next year will probably need thinking about and pricing obtained 1st.

Mine was £48 today for a quick health check and annual booster - I haven’t looked but I think it was Lepto only this time.

I used to take all 4 greyhounds in annually for boosters, it was chaos and expensive and I really can’t get used to only having 2 dogs now

I paid £80 yesterday, that was for health check and lepto 2 booster for one dog, and health check including dental check and anal glands emptied for the other dog. I was in the consulting room for about half an hour as I also had lengthy chat with the vet about the pros and cons of lap or normal spay and phantom pregnancies .

Our vets do a £120 fee when you get puppy vaccinated and that covers you for life for all vaccinations. I figured that’s a very good deal as long as the dog reaches its 2nd birthday.

I have a dilemma , vet recommends lap spay ideally but they don’t do them . Quote for normal spay around £400, quote from recommended vet for lap spay nearly £700 ! Also factor in she’s currently having a phantom, I’m away from middle of June (she will have 2 weeks with Norm so not going to be a quiet time ) and she’ll probably be in season again late July !

Ours is £397 regular, £647 lap. They don’t make it easy for the timing do they! Not a chance she’d remain quiet while you’re gone.

I haven’t had any phantoms to contend with but this 4 month thing is just unreasonable, she’s permanently naked, hormonal and costing me a fortune in missed training fees.

However, D is currently 4.9kg.

Laparoscopic spay routinely offered over std as easier recovery.

Yes both quotes include everything including Medivest . Prices are normally by weight , unfortunately my girl is around 35 kg . Much as I’d like to go for the lap spay I think I may end up with the normal one , nearly £300 difference is a lot .

I have always had normal spays, and a £300 saving for just an extra few days of quiet sounds like a bargain to me.

Yep I've always had normal, and never had a problem keeping them quiet. But that was with my old brilliant but sadly retired vet and the incision was only 2-3 inches in a GSD, I am happy with my new vets but never had a spay with them . But as you say £300 is a lot of money.

How does the GA time compare between the 2 methods, a good friend lost a young bitch whilst being spayed at the end of last year and that is preying on my mind a bit
Can I be cheeky and ask your thoughts on how close to the next spay you would consider reasonable to spay ? As in my earlier post timing is a bit of a problem

Yep I've always had normal, and never had a problem keeping them quiet. But that was with my old brilliant but sadly retired vet and the incision was only 2-3 inches in a GSD, I am happy with my new vets but never had a spay with them . But as you say £300 is a lot of money.

I’ve had dogs spayed with many vets and apart from the emergency pyo all have been max 3”long. In fact the pyo wasn’t much bigger but being on a tiny spaniel it looked worse.
