Sunday musings :) What do you put on your neds for different activities e.g. short hacks, long hacks, jumping, flatwork etc? I've always booted up with either brushing boots all round or tendon boots on the front for all ridden work and lunging, but with the increased hours of daylight I am now doing a lot of long hacks mainly at walk (3/4 + hours) with a couple of canters through fields and am worried about overheating his tendons. He brushes very occasionally behind but has never seriously injured himself whilst being ridden, its all been in the field when he's been @rsing about :D so I'm now considering whether its worth taking the boots off for those long hacks? Leftover birthday cake on offer? :)

Flat work is bandages
Turn out brushing boots a/r with over reach boots (only when extremely fresh/likely to be divs!)
Jumping tendon/ fetlock plus over reach boots
Xc full boots a/r plus over reach boots

Hacking boots or bandages with hiviz

overreach boots for everything as she is very short coupled and active behind so does overreach when walking on a long rein or being keen

i try to avoid booting due to overheating risks

my daughters horse wears boots for xcountry

Nothing for hacking, though I have used knee boots in the past for a lot of roadwork on a fresh horse.

Bandages for flat only if photographing / matchy matchying. Also matchy matchy for TREC / other competing.

All round plus o/rs for xc. Usually just brushing boots as his sports medicine boots don't do well with water (and make his legs v hot) and don't have smart xc boots.

Don't normally boot up for sj schooling at home, but do if competing. Brushing or tendon boots.

Knee/brushing boots and o/r on front for any road work at, plus back brushing boots.

None for light schooling, tendon, o/r and fetlock boots if jumping.

Boots a/r for xc (p.e ones)

None for turnout except for when he was first out after box rest when had brushing and or all round.

Hacking - knee/brushing boots in front with brushing boots behind
Schooling - usually nothing but the more later work I do I tend to put on boots/bandages
Lunging - nothing
SJ - open front tendon boots on the front
XC - brushing boots all round
Hunting - nothing
Endurance - nothing although there's one ride with very slippy roads so the knee/brushing boots go on front

I don't put anything on my current pair. It is so wet and muddy around here that I would be causing more problems by booting or bandaging.

I had an older mare before these two and I bandaged her for longer hacks, jumping etc as she appreciated the extra support.
