Having never ridden that competitively jumping wise i'm at a complete loss of what boots i should buy for Prince!! It seems to be a bit of a minefield!!

He's 15hh connie. At the mo i have the cheap £10 soft brushing boots - pony on the front and cob on the back but they offer little protection i think except for brushing etc which he doesn't actually do.

We've started doing SJ and XC and i want some good quality boots that will last a few years. We're only doing 70cm max at the mo and i'm not planning to go beyond riding club level but i do want something with a good level of protection.

Any ideas?

I like the look of the clarendon 3 day event ones but they seem a bit over the top for our level of riding and when i emailed they suggested the hunter or competition event ones but i'd like something without fur lining i think

Don't bother with Clarendons. I used them for a while as I inherited a set, but although they wash well and don't need taping on, that's about all they have going for them :)

I think you could take a look at the premier equine boots - they are a reasonable price, seem to get good reviews in Comp Riders and there are several different designs so bound to be one to suit you. Or NEW but I think they are a bit more pricey.

I use NEW tendon boots for SJ as that was all I could get to fit my 15hh cob x wb at the time - they have stood up to the wear very well. And she has Dalmars for xc which fit her perfectly and are super tough but also super expensive!! Possibly overkill for RC (my mare was competing BE Novice when I bought them, but I concluded she only had one set of legs so I wanted to do my best to protect them) :D

Thanks to you both - i will go and do a bit of googling. I don't mind high priced ones if they are worth it!
