Hello
I have been having regular dressage lessons every week for the past 6 months or so and inbetween i am riding him 3 more rimes per week - its normally 1 x schooling session and maybe 2 hacks per week. We have been doing a fair bit of lateral work and currently starting half pass now we have nailed the travers in trot
Do you think its wise to boot up? He currently wears nothing on his legs, i don't want to overheat them but at the same time i realise a bit of protection wouldn't go amiss! He wears front shoes only.
Hes a secrion D but not the chunky type!
Thanks in advance ☺

I always use boots all round, just as a precaution, however if you have got this far without I wouldn't see a particular need to start to use them now if you didn't want to before.

same.
I booted my welsh all round FWIW. it's personal preference really. i like lightweight boots that are easy to clean and the way i look at it is why let a daft scuff put you off your training. but there's no rule to say you should start.
i will boot my 3yo when he starts work next year. he is gormless and thin skinned, i have lots of pairs of suitable boots floating about to may as well bung them on.

I never did on my welsh unless jumping, though mostly because he was prone to scabbiness anyway so he least he wore the better and it's just more stuff to clean (we usually ditched the noseband too for the same reason ?

I don't put boots on any of mine and have one training at Medium and another at Novice/Ele. I only stick boots on at competitions but make sure they train in them occasionally at home so not completely alien to them. I jump about 1.10/1.20m at home with no boots on. I completely changed tack a few years ago after a long chat with my Equine vet friend. They have less lumps and bumps and I have no worries about tendon degradation through heating them up artificially with boots. If they were getting marks on their legs in ridden work I might think again but not had a single mark on them.

Racehorses very rarely have any boots on and are worth £££ and doing far more risky work.

If you've not needed them yet I don't see the point in startng to use them now. Boots and wraps warm up the tendons, increasing chances of injury so personally I'm not a fan.

I don’t boot or bandage either and have taken two horses to Medium. Unless they are likely to knock themselves I don’t think it’s worth the risk to their tendons (or the extra time and effort ?).

I can't see why you'd need them if the horse has not worn boots thus far however, I do boot whatever I am doing (habit) and I find simplest is best. I either use plain Woof Wear brushing boots or the basic velcro Eskadron tendon boots.
