I have a little project horse who came out of racing back in January, she has two lumps on the insides of each hind pastern, the right being bigger than the left tis one is just over her coronet band. She is currently with the vet having the largest removed as she reguarly knocks the top off making it sore again and ends up scooting about like a tripod (Not funny at all). Its like an overreach but on the inside of the opposite leg and the lump has been getting bigger each time she does it. So far i have tried the following:
Bandages - works for a short while but then the bandage will either ride up over the lump or come apart exposing it anyway
Brushing boots - not enough protection lower down.
Sausage Boot - the lump is bigger than the width of the ring
Overreach boots - rubs the top of the lump sore.
Can anyone think of any types of boot that would be suitable to cover this area to help prevent a reoccurance of this lump, i was looking at the equichaps although im not sure if they woudl be suitable to ride in. The vet is costing a small fortune and while i dont begrudge her this treatment i dont want to find myself back to have it redone, its very complicated and she will be wearing a cast to help it heal on her return home.
I have some photos which i will try to upload later on.

Have you tried a pastern wrap or do you think that'd rub too? Underneath overreach boots if nec to stop them rubbing as they'll give better protection to the coronet band?

Didnt know these existed, im hoping there wont be a lump on the right anymore after the op, the other side is minimal and slightly higher so probably wouldnt cause any rubbing at all, I shall have a look into that now. Thanks!

Just had a quick look at the pastern wrap, does anyone use these what is your opinion of them, the prolite one looks as though it ends about the same place my horses lump is, im not sure that one in particular will come down far enough to protect where the lump will have been, is there a boot that almost covers the coronet band?

My old horse had something similar, he moved very close behind and had similar sounding lumps. I used pastern wraps, found it annoying that they were sold in singles though! First ones that seemed to come about were woof then prolite, but also I think john whitikar do them now. They were perfect, especially for show jumping, but not too hard wearing as only neoprene with no hard cover, but cheap enough to replace.
What I used for every day hacking and schooling were some boots made by westropp that were brushing boots with extended 'points' to cover the inside of the pasterns and coronet. They were more hard wearing, not sure if they still make them (I do have a brand new pair hanging around since pony was put to sleep 8 years ago

), but worth looking into - I've had a google and can't find them at this moment.

just popped into the tack room to look what they were - westropp schooling boots hind, they are on equestrian clearance, but out of stock

I use the westropp schooling boots on my mare who has proud flesh on the inside of her pastern where she had an accident with a previous owner and put her hoof through the floor of a trailer.
