border collie rounding people up esp kids

my border collie is 2 years old, but recently he has started rounding people up esp kids!
how can i stop him doing this
he is usually a bit nervous and quiet but when he does this he seems to go into a zone!
he gets 4 or 5 hours exercise a day

My collie has only just stopped doing it and hes 8, and i think the only reason hes stopped it, is cuz he has someone herding him now... lol

I would be grateful he is concentrating on herding and therefore being around you rather than running off after other more interesting things! God know I wish my two collie x's would discover their herding instincts and then we may have some form of recall! lol. As long as the dog isn't nipping at legs/ankles then I wouldn't see it as a problem just the dog doing what it was designed to do

The Border Collie I used to have as a kid did this. I don't think he ever gave it up, it was just his natural instinct. We used to distract him by throwing sticks for him which was another of his obsessions. I used to get the kids who he was rounding up to join in so they wouldn't complain!
 
T2Rose, Busby is absolutley gorgeous! Fab pic. I have a collie and he too does it all the time. Is just what they do. Just gotta love em for it.
 
My Border Collie, Moss, never used to round people up but if you threw a ball etc. for him he would never run directly to it - instead he'd do a huge outrun often disappearing from sight and pick the ball up on his way back to me. He did this for all his 13 years.
 
doubt hell ever stop. one of our collies is 9 and she still does it. whether its whilst shes out hacking with us, shes always bobbing around making sure were all there lol or in the field when im poo picking. problem is as she is out of cattle stock she has no fear about snapping at the horses fetlocks to get them moving along so frisby or tennis ball is always at hand in the field lol
 
In that case you can train him not to nip when rounding up. This would be better posted in the dog section. I know of at least 1 person who posts in there whose dog used to do this and there are lots of more knowledgeable people than me who will be able to advise you!
