Pointless post really, but though I would share with you how bored I am, I am on house arrest !!!

I can’t ride, cant even get down the yard ! am not a happy bunny, horse is out getting fat and I cant even go and say hello to him ! what makes it even worse is that I was supposed to go to the Windsor Sponsored Ride today and meet up with Theresa_W. Am gutted.

Done Frensham 3 weeks ago and only made it half way round – not good. And to be honest starting to doubt when and if I will ride again, god I am feeling my age !!

Have done my knee in, it has been playing me up when riding long rides for the past year, but at Frensham I was in agony. Can barely walk some days, am struggling to work and I do an office job !! Only walk to go out for a fag and make tea !!!! Have had x-rays and blood tests and luckily it is not Arthritis. Docs are useless and have just said rest it and take Ibuprofen and Panadol. I can only assume I have pulled something in there ! gets very fluidy.

I am feeling so sorry for myself, is there anyone else out there with a similar situation ? maybe we can compare stories and make ourselves either feel better or worse !!!!

Sorry but thanks
Off to eat even more chocolate !

I would try a decent sports physio or the like. A livery here had a similar thing and was in agony - went to a sports physio (who understood horse riding) and after a couple of sessions and some corrective strapping was pain free for the first time in years - she used to scream with pain when she mounted....

Hugs to you!

I can't ride as my horse is injured so I am a bit down as well. Hopefully the Chiro will put him right on Tuesday if not the vet is going to have to look into it further.

I also suffer with my knees quite a lot, they ache, creak and crack and I am only 22. Doesn't really look good for the future does it!

Poor you!

I do sympathise. I fell down the stairs in November, pulled all the muscles in my arm, did something to the collar bone and shoulder blade (don't know exactly what, human medical things go right over my head!!

) and have to have physio now!

It's horrible when you're layed up but not sick, sick, if you see what I mean!

Can you get someone to drive you to see your horse, even for fifteen mins?. Luckily, I can walk and drive so at least I can struggle through doing my lot!!

What treatment have they suggested for your knee?

Like you say would nto be as bad if I had constant flu or a limb hanging off !!!!

I know how you feel regarding your shoulder - done that few years ago, but fell of a different horse.

That's my problem, docs have said nothing about treatment! which is what makes it worse, I dont know how long i will be like this.

unfort hubby dont drive, aswell as me and Dad works a lot, plus drives past horse to collect me to take me to him !! luckily yard is brilliant, and they use him during week for RDA so he is at least off the grass !!! and they feed him at weekends.

Hubby has been down to say hi to him for me today and pooh pick !!

Just looked at physio, geeze !!!! do they think people are rich !!!

you can get it from the nhs if the doctor reccomends it? .... i have done my back in just before xmas nothing to do with a fall but i have constant pain in my back been to the docs and he has given me inflammotiries! going back after this course and getting pysio if it is no better which it isnt!! so know how you feel sort of i couldnt ride for a month a while back but now i cannot run or do any impact sports which is jst as bad for me soo i do no how you feel it really is horrible but definetly go back to the doctors and try get it perscribed from them then you will not have to pay

Agreed, ask your doc for physio. Now you can refer yourself, doctor gives you a form. I waited so long to go and have it done, but once they book you in you shouldn't have to wait too long!

Knee problems are the worst, I fell of a gate a did mine (don't ask! OH says I'm old enough to know better!!!

) they take such a long time to get right.

Get OH to take some photos while he's at the yard, then at least you can look at them!!!

Sounds like you are having a tough time... but remember, you should be thankful for what you have! I had to give my horse up about a month ago, and all I do now is have weekly lessons... which, although I love and enjoy, its not quite horse ownership! I know you can't see your horse, but remember he'll be there when you are back on your feet!
I would consider seeing a Chiropractor! So many people have limb issues, and docs say just take pain killers, but alot of the pain comes down to back weakness! I saw a Chiropractor for my back (I have Scoliosis which is curviture of the spine) and as you can imagine, it also causes hip pain, and aching legs, as well as cramping back muscles! One session and I feel like a new person!

Take glucosamine! Actually, OH took powdered shark cartilage (it's disgusting but OH has a stronger stomach than me!) He had a really bad knee from years of working outside in the cold and wet but he also runs. He had to stop running as his knee was so painful, even strapped it was agony. He took the shark cartilage (2 weeks loading dose, like the horse! Then just every other day for a while and now he just takes it when he feels a twinge.) He is back to running well over 60km a week and is also riding out with me and keen to start doing endurance riding. Just need to get him some flexi stirrups to stop him nicking mine and we're sorted. The chiropractor advice is good too, because even if you're knee isn't caused by your back you may be creating problems with your posture because of the bad knee. Hope it improves soon.

thanks guys - glad I am not the only one suffering at the mo - sorry if that sounds just plain nasty - it is not meant - you know what I mean !!!

xxxxxx

I am definitely sympathising with you, had my elbow dislocated by a cow on easter saturday and am just out of plaster, it's driving me mad that I can't ride.

The worst part is that I am helping to organise a riding club fun ride tomorrow, the route is fantastic, spent all afternoon putting the signs up, and I will be stuck on the registration desk!

Hope you're feeling better soon.
