Some of you may remember my post from last week about the schooling problems I was having with my Giraffe of a horse

(Here's the link for full story http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4462389/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1 )

Well today armed with all your words of wisdom, a new bit, Schooling whip and a bit of determination we had a breakthrough!

It Didn't start off to well as he kicked Lara as I was trying to get him in to the school

but that's another story!

(This is his first schooling session since the other photo's were taken!)

I know we are still FAR from perfect but I am still really happy, I couldn't stop grinning and patting him when I go off!

He took quite a bit of warming up but the funny thing was that once he stopped fighting (by which times my arms where aching - I need to relax more!) and brought his head down it was really easy to keep it there. We walked and trotted on both reins!

So a huge, huge thank you to every one of you who posted on my previous post, you will never know how much it helped!

Wooohooooo! What a breakthrough. He looks so much softer in the neck, which will give you alot more to work with

Well, I've changed his bit to a loose ring snaffle with a lozenge and also put some continental reins on to help me keep an even contact which I think helped.

and Just loads of little things like riding him forward more, keeping my hands wide and low (big help!), doing transitions (although admittedly I didn't do as many as I did the other day

), lots of circles, and I guess just believing in myself and not giving in, (oh and I think the sharp smack he got before we reached the school probably woke him up a bit!

)!

Wow what a difference! What bit are you using now? What was it before? Sorry I did scan over the previous thread but obviously missed the important details!

I have ridden him in a Hanging cheek snaffle with what I thought was a lozenge link (but realised tonight was actually a revolving link

) for the past few months and tonight I rode him in a loose ring snaffle with lozenge. I have tried so many types of snaffles before but none of them were ever loose rings!

Thank you all!

I obviuosly need to build on this to get it more consistent but is there anything from the pictures that looks really wrong that I need to work on? I really am useless at this kind if thing so any more help would be great!

That's brilliant, well done!

As you said - work on getting it consistent and coming quicker and easier each time. And give him and you lots of little breaks and soak time (in case you're getting so excited you can't stop

)

And then millions of transitions in quick succession to get him off the leg while staying soft in front.

Updates pls!!
