Very quick recap...
Chum has always been grumpy round the girth/tacking up, gradually getting worse. New saddle / reflocking / physio appeared to do the trick but gradually reverting back to old self.. All seemed to point to changing shape and saddle not a good fit anymore.
So... fitter came out tonight - different one to who originally fitted it (personal reason for this, nothing onimous) so it was interesting to get another opinion.
Fitter thinks saddle is a good fit (couple of very minor things) but thinks problem still with pony's back that is NOT being caused by this saddle. There was a particular sore point, very obviously pointed out by Chum's reaction, off-side about 3/4 of the way back from front of saddle, about 6 or 7" down from spine (I know where it is even if my 'map' doesn't make sense
). He could feel heat there. In his opinion it was muscular.
He recommended Bowen and could recommend a particular person who is supposed to be one of the best in the country. He said it was obviously up to me what I did next but seemed quite convinced that it would get to the root of pony's problem instead of the merry-go-round of vet/physio/saddle etc.
I have been googling it and it all sounds wonderful
but I think I am becoming a bit cynical in my old age and taking everything with a pinch of salt
but I have got to do something to sort my boy out!
So does anyone have any experience of Bowen, good or bad? PM me if you prefer.
I've got to sort out the contact details for Bowen Man tomorrow (Julian in Worcester is all I know so far) and will have a good chat with him. I will probably speak to my vet too (though I'm guessing vet has to give permission anyway??).
Just to top it all Chum was very sore on hinds after having new shoes today (he was mildly sore for a day last time but never had a problem before then) so fingers crossed he will be okay tomorrow or that means another call to make...any ideas on why this has suddenly started happening - will speak to farrier too...
